New York Mets 2025 Season

I don't think that is unreasonable given the timing of our issues. We lost an all-star pitcher for the year, Megill has been out most of the season, Holmes and Peterson are battling fatigue after carrying the staff all year, Manaea and Senga coming back from injury and not being quite right....

Megill is ready, it seems like Manaea is just a matter of when, the rookies are dealing, and it's very possible Holmes is strong enough to keep pitching.
I wouldn’t call Holmes 4.32 era and 5 IP per game in August good. I don’t see anything turning in Manaea and I think Senga is heading to the IL soon. I’m not optimistic but I hope to be proven wrong.

We know Manaea has a bad elbow and Senga something is off. Both can only be counted on for four innings every six days or so. Use them for that and don't expect more. Maybe Stanek and Helsey could function as openers in front of them for an inning or two.

I’m trying to think which all-star pitcher we lost for the year but can’t. Who is that?

I’d agree with this but Stanek and Helsley would have us down 5-0 before the game began.

Probably talking about Canning. I don’t know about All-Star but he was pitching good mostly. He was definitely trending downward his last couple of starts I thought.

Yeah, Canning was who I was referring too. He had a sub-3 era first week of June and was mentioned a lot as an all-star possibility.

To have Canning, Megill, and Montas (and Scott) out while your top 2 pitchers are coming back from the IL is a lot for any team to deal with.

On top of that Peterson and Holmes battling through fatigue carrying this staff. In a perfect world, we would have probably skipped a start for both and/or went with a true 6-man rotation all year.

Manaea should be a really easy guy to open for or stack with another starter/long reliever. He’s got the unique lefty delivery. Pair him with a righty.

Gary Cohen giving run by run update of Cincinnati Reds games does make me somewhat irrationally crazy. I mean knowing it’s 1-0 Blue Jays on September 2 is really not necessary. When will he start tracking the Padres who are “only” 2 games up on Mets or perhaps the Giants who trail us by 5 as opposed to Reds 4.

Can teams option players in September?
Yes, they just option’d Waddell.

I’m as bullish as you about him. But I dont understand why we have to watch him go through this stuff in MLB, when he can rehab/work on mechanics/whatever it is, for one or two starts. Especially with MeGill and sproat

I think that’s probably a good idea. Just let him skip a start otherwise or go to the 10 day IL.

This McLean start is super impressive.

Doesn’t have his stuff early, got roughed up, against one of the top teams in baseball & he adjusts his approach to fastballs + buckled down + didn’t get too loose after getting the lead.

How many starts have we seen Senga and Manaea immediately give up the lead, or be taken out after two innings since their stuff isn’t there?

Who would get the wild card start if the game was next week, McLean or Peterson?

Love seeing him pitch through adversity. Seems to have what fellow North Carolina native Madison Bumgarner has mentally.

I’ll go with McLean. I’ve already seen the Peterson show. If he doesn’t have it he could melt. McLean doesn’t seem afraid.
