U.S. News also ranked the university third for best undergraduate teaching at national universities.[6] Forbes ranked Miami 155th in the United States among all colleges and universities and listed it as one of "America's Best College Buys".[24] In March 2010, BusinessWeek ranked the undergraduate business program for the Farmer School of Business at 16th among all U.S. undergraduate business schools and was ranked sixth among public schools.[25] Entrepreneur ranked Miami's Institute for Entrepreneurship 15th among undergraduate programs in the nation.[26] The Wall Street Journal ranked Miami 22nd among state schools for bringing students directly from undergraduate studies into top graduate programs.[27] The Journal also ranked Miami's accelerated MBA program ninth globally.[28] Miami's accountancy program received high marks from the Public Accounting Report's rankings of accountancy programs; its undergraduate and graduate programs ranked 12th and 15th respectively.[29] In 1985, Richard Moll wrote a book about America's premier public universities where he describes Miami as one of America's original eight "Public Ivies", along with the University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, University of Virginia, College of William and Mary, University of Texas, University of Vermont, and the University of North Carolina.[30]

Miami also receives high marks for its beautiful campus. Newsweek rated Miami No. 19, in its 2012 list of Most Beautiful Schools.[31]

Great video. I can't believe the school made that. With the references to the 18 and up bars, fraternities and hot women. Sounds like a great place. I hope this guy knows the scene in Queens couldn't be more different.

Below is a link to the release from Miami University which identifies the impressive list of President Gempesaw's accomplishments at Miami.

I wish the new president all the luck in the world, and i hope he does a great job leading St. John's, however, I think St. John's did themselves a major disservice not making Father Jim Maher its president.

I think it's great news that we finally have a non-Vincentian and a lay person as a president. It's often been said, "The Vincentians run great orphanages, not schools! My only question now is can he hit the 3?

With all due respect Avon, Father Jim is a great guy, was great with the students, the basketball players and is a committed Vincentian priest but the major disservice would have been to even consider him given his small body of work in academia. I know you and the Maven were close with him, especially during the Jarvis era, but I can tell you this from my discussions with a couple of people close to the search and that is he was never even close to being considered since all his roles were very provincial and he has never done anything outside of St. John's to impress the committee. He will be fine at Niagara University however. The trustees have a much more global plan for our university and I think they picked a "Gem" to lead us on that journey.

New President should let St. John's move up for both academic ranking and basketball ranking.

In 2014, St. John's academic ranking was dropped to 150th in the nation. Compare to Fordham, Fordham is now ranked top 50 for academic ranking in the nation. Shame on this.. Ranking depends on how the President of university does the business in many ways thesedays. Keeping good academic ranking is like politics.

Its great to see how they honor their Greek Life system and the social life aspect of a college career. At St. Johns they hide their Greek Life system like its some sort of a shame and when it comes to social life they put more sanctions and restrictions on student and the dorms that most times the rules that you have at school are stricter than the ones that you had at home from your parents.

When Gantry's closed down and Last Call opened up, I hear the school made it a point to have a meeting with the owner's and threaten them about the influence they would have over the student body.

Below is the best video that has come out of St. John's promoting Greek Life.

Reading your posts make my head spin like your avatar.

His resume' looks amazing obviously. No one ever mentioned his name during the process. I guess they were keeping the interviews highly guarded.

Speaking of guards, does he like sports, in particular basketball? Come on, all of you have already thought about that.

He was a cyo ref .. and was involved at the diocese level too. He must be something of a basketball fan.

well let's hope that basketball is at least one major item on his agenda.

Yep....he just took over a major university, and he should be concerned about their basketball team??
Lavin makes about what 500 kids pay in tuition.

A good basketball team greatly increases the number of applications the school receives. He shoild be very interested in the basketball teams success for a number $$$$$ of reasons

Agree here. Sounds like a great choice. I'm glad they chose somebody from outside the University and from the academic community. We need somebody to transform SJU's academic picture a bit. Time for change and it seems the BOT went that direction.

C'mon, there's only one question....

CAN HE REBOUND?

Will he be visible at the games? I am an old timer but in my day Father Cahill who was the President at that time was very visible at many of the basketball games. He cared about the program. We need a President who cares about the basketball program

Yes, he would stand on the walkway with arms folded overlooking the court

Watch the spike in UCONN's applications and correspondingly the upgrade in quality of incoming students after back to back national championships.

From what I've read about the incoming president I expect him to be a breath of fresh air on Utopia Parkway.

Also agree that the moustache has to go. It's reminiscent of a 1930's villain or a 1940's espionage agent. Of course Mrs. Gempeshaw is probably the only person who has any leverage in that department.

Breath of fresh air on Hillside Ave? Has our campus moved?
