No Pitt, no Syracuse, no ND, no W VA.

Add to that no Boeheim and no Calhoun, and to a much smaller extent no Huggins and no Brey.

This all spells THE END for the BE, with its new commissioner and a strange assortment of FB and BB schools and geographic insanity.

I liked the new Commish, but then ND left and Calhoun retired, I do not know how the BE survives, I don't think it will.

I pray that Steve Lavin stays the course, I am certain he did not see all of this happening when he took the job.

Screw ND and their academic compatibility platitudes too! You're NOT Harvard, ND!

Looking back--- this all started with the original turncoat, BC, another fraud when it comes to academic compatibility.

ACADEMIC COMPATIBILITY =FOOTBALL REVENUE

FOOTBALL REVENUE= T.V., CABLE, NETWORK $$$

T.V., CABLE, NETWORK $$$= SPORTS BETTING.

ACADEMIC COMPATIBILITY= SPORTS BETTING.

So BC and ND, those esteemed, elite Catholic institutions of higher learning are all about the almighty dollar driven by sports betting.

Makes me so proud.

don't over react. We still have a very formidable conference with some oustanding basketball traditions. Boeheim and Calhoun was or is inevitable, no surprises here. When this all shakes out, the Big East will still be one of the top 4 conferences in the country.  My opinion anyway!!!!!

I don't think ND leaving dooms the Big East. Bottom line is that the only school we cannot replace is Syracuse. Temple, Memphis and even a Houston team that will probably rise again to they way they used to be back when they were a national power (remember those back to back Final Four appearances in the 80s) will be just as good, if not a better fit than ND, Pitt & West Virginia . Temple is much close geographically to the core Big East schools than ND or West Virginia. Memphis has clearly been a better program than ND or Pitt when it comes to NCAA Tournament success. Will things be different, yes, but we will still have some major quality programs (and TV markets). Calhoun & Boehim were going to retire at some point, whether they were in The Big East or not. We survived the Rollie, Little Looie and Big John retiring or leaving, we will survive the Jimmy B & Jimmy C also,

2 things about Coach Lavin:

1) I think he wants to prove that he can rebuild a program and is a very good coach.

2) If we all want Coach Lavin to stick around we better start to fill up MSG on a regular basis.

Let's not give him any reasons to leave.

Am I alone to say that both the ACC and BE are in trouble. The ACC certainly is in a better position, but with the addition of SU, Pitt and ND, it shows that they (current members) are unable to agree on the addition of worthy football teams from high academic institutions! In fact, if I’m FSU, Clem, or VTech which are the core of the ACC, I bolt the first sniff from any of the big 4 football conference, since its truly all about the money! When that happens, ACC will take UCONN and RU first, maybe even Cincinnati! The ACC might have won as it retains its name, but the core of the league will be BE teams. BTW, don’t be surprised in a school like North Caroline choose to go to the Big Ten and be a bottom feeder in football in an overall better conference.

BTW, those 4 conferences are looking now and smell blood in the water, I bet this happens before the BCS games begin.

Fully agree about Syracuse. That said, fully expect us to play them every year and I'm not going to be surprised to see ND show up on the schedule on a regular basis.

Don't see that at all, as dook just dropped us because they're out of room already on their OOC schedule.

Good point about ACC teams not having enough non-conference games on their schedule to fit us in, but if Boehiem is still there when they go to the ACC, I am sure he will do whatever he can to get a game or 2 at the Garden each year, & we we would be a logical non-conference game.

Hello TIS, bet you an ice cream sundae that we play The Orange at least once a year. And I would expect the same from ND.

Also understand that Chris and Kevin White have a very good relationship. If Duke can find a way to fit us in they will, IMO.

If not, we will see them in Maui in 2015.

I would question any relationships Chris has at this point in the Big East journey. I have no problem playing Duke, a quasi-football playing school in the ACC but Syracuse is dead to me ------ DEAD!

Could not agree more. There is no benefit and only a potential downside to putting them on our schedule.
May they rot in the ACC.

BC leaving was not the beginning of the end. If anything it was the U... The greatest football program in the country in the past 25 years hands down. The sad thing is that I bet they are regretting the move to the ACC because of their decline in recent years. The Big East is doomed while I think the ACC just might survive the power shifting that's been going on(because they'll have the greatest bball conference of all time).

Lets be honest, the U isn't declining because it joined the ACC. It declined because it made a concerted effort to rid it self of cheaters and criminals while raising its academic profile. And they're certainly not crying over the additional money they're getting from the ACC.

The fact that the ACC raised its penalty fee to leave the conference to 50 million will essentially mean none of those schools are going to be leaving. We should have made it 50 million when BC and Miami left. btw it isnt so much that BC left or that Miami left that began the beginning of the end. The answer is really with ND if they had been willing to play football with our teams even as much as they now want to with the ACC then Miami and BC would never have left

If ND is still playing USC, Stanford and one BIG school, let's see if the ACC teams they play would include FLST, Clemson, VaTech. More like Syracuse, Pitt, NC ST, Duke and UNC to soften the ND losses that can pile up and make them the hottest losing team on ESPN by 2015.
Jay Bileless thinks the ACC will help ND's recruiting in football? Did it help BC, Duke or the other part-time football school UNC?
There are a lot of ACC Kool Aid drinkers on ESPN so I take everything they say with a grain of salt.
Forget all the other college realignments, the ACC raids are in concert with ESPN. I just hope in future NCAA basketball tourney games that pay back will be a biacth!

Syracuse may be "dead" to us and of no benefit, but they will still be on our schedule IMO.

I hope you are wrong JSJ.

I am very ambivalent about Syracuse; I have a long deep relationship with some of their Alums and we've had great back-and-forths over the past 35 years, (I remember betting my buddy that Pearl was going to blow an important free throw down the stretch of teh Ron Rowan game---and he did!!)--on the other hand 'Cuse leaving the BE was a terrible thing.

I think a real hard-nosed reporter should do a full-fledged investigative report into collusion with the ACC and ESPN, obviously those guys are totally in bed with each other and I for one think they colluded to destroy the Big East as we know it.

Michael Isikoff where are you?

the big east decline started when syracuse insisted that pitt be admitted into the BE--for football
at that time the BE should said good by and good luck
