nd game

From the presser seems that Phil's injury is pretty serious. Lavin talks about possibly shutting him down early and Green having surgery. Yikes -- even if you're not a fan of Phil's play would be nice to have him for depth. I wonder how much the injury has affected his play.

Phil is not doing much out there anyway. I'd be fine with shutting him down.

Rotate D'Angelo to backup Branch at PG while Marco plays SG.

Depth will be an issue when there's foul trouble.

We may wind up shutting down the whole season. It seems like we never get a break

I expected to see Phil really develop this season. I l;ike his game last year as a frosh and felt he was improving as the season went on. Obviously from the Lavin interview, Phil is hurting and it probably is hindering his game and development at this point. I would shut him down and give his minutes to Branch and let Marco play a lot more. Balamou can get a few more minutes then also. This would realy help all three players Branch, Marco and Felix get their games ready for next season when hopefully we have Lawrence and Gift. Them along with a healthy Phil Greene and Branch, Marco and Felix with a lot of minute sunder their belts and I think we can do some damage next season. Not that I'm totally giving up on this season but just looking ahead. Shutting Phil down might be the best thing.

I will be at the game tomorrow. I expect the team to come out with a ton of energy after the Georgetown game.

Not a smart game plan to play a hurt player as much as Greene has been played since it not only hurts the player but the team as well!
Perhaps we will see if Marc has been part of any practice game plans or is the just the garbage time player we have seen to date. Baptism of fire for Felix but this kid is a super athlete who can at least hit his foul shots, unlike the rest of the team.
The first game we will get to see Branch have influence on the offense......but smarter shots by Harrison and Sampson may be harder to come by. Will we see more than just one 15 ft jump shot by Chris...maybe a drop pass down low?

According to Lenn Robbins' NYP article, Lavin is switching to a 3 guard lineup, with Branch taking Amir's minutes. Please, someone explain why this makes sense? If PG4 is hurting, and he clearly is, why not let Branch and Harrison play with a combo of Amir and Dom at 3 with Obekpa and Sampson? PG4 could spell either Branch or Harrison, or even Amir.

Did I read it correctly today that we are only 4.5 pt dogs? Would have thought it be a bigger spread than that given the G-town game. Cooley is one of the more polished bigs we will face this year, interested in see how Obekpa/Sampson handles it.

Our nonsensical slashing style has given ND fits the past two years, so the line may reflect that. With our abysmal FT shooting, I am inclined to think that won't be replicated.

Seems like ND has struggled to hit 3's in the Garden against us, but regardless they are an excellent passing team. Our defensive rotations need to be on point or else we will get torched.

I, too, expected Phil to be more of a force this season, but seems like, after some good games at the start of the season, he's regressed. His shooting has become as inconsistent as it was last year (.382 compared with last year's .367; and .286 on 3-point shots, which almost mirrors last year's .284; even his FTs are down to .615 from .744), plus he's simply not a point guard -- he over-dribbles, uses up too much clock dribbling laterally beyond the key, and is often forced to heave up a prayer with the shot clock running down. I love his heart and his competitive attitude, but he's just not getting it done offensively.

Anyone actually going tonight? I was planning on it- but after catching a 930 Am train Saturday to watch such a pathetic showing I think i'll watch from my couch.

I'm sure there's something to Phil Greene and his injury, but honestly I think his confidence is hurting as much as anything. Even with him a bit hurt, I think Greene can beat an opponent's SF off the bounce, which he couldn't do against an opponents PG. I also think we need him out there and shooting it well (just not as the PG). We really need another shooter on the floor and I think Lav is just trying to get him back into some kind of rhythm offensively.
