(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #10 Arkansas, Sat., Mar. 22, 2:40p, CBS

Very Athletic but not deep. They played 7 guys last night. Very poor half court offense but good offensive rebounders and tough in the open court.

I don't understand how a kid suffering from a month's old injury would be able to go Saturday afternoon when he wasn't available to play at all Thursday night in an elimination game as the underdog.

Seems like gamesmanship from Cal. Then again, a lifetime of being a St. John's fan as me expecting every injured opposing player to be completely healthy just in time for the game against us.

He’s on a flight back from Lourdes that lands in Boston this AM.

A hobbling Center and a rusty Boogie with a just healing hand aren’t the pieces Cal is going to get big production from.

Boogie wasn’t handling the ball much . Kind of hung out in the Corner and let the other guys run the show

Looked very tentative trying to get the ball inbounds in the last minutes .

Arkansas looked like they never saw a Zone against Kansas .

Leave it to RP to throw a Zone at Cal , just to disrupt them early .

Linguini - 78

I go w “mind games” as well.

The bad news is that it would be unfortunate if we again don't show up until the game is 10 minutes old.

The good news is that I think if we play our typical tenacious D then Arkansas can become easily frustrated and turn the ball over.

Keep it competitive on the boards, win the turnover margin by a reasonable amount, and I think we can win the game.

We also get the Scott-Brazille side-by-side comparison for fun

Have to keep them out of transition. If we make them play offense exclusively in the halfcourt they are going to have trouble scoring and will eventually get frustrated. They are a team of mental midgets but can get into a groove if they are able to use their athleticism on the fast break

I know Arkansas had 21 wins, but was 8-10 in the SEC, to me they're an nit team.
But the committee gotta kiss Cals ass I guess.

It's ok, after tomorrow they're done.

Everyone on this board should be completely prepared for Arkansas to go on multiple 9-0 runs. EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE.

They are not a resilient team, they have no idea how to lock down on defense in crunch time, they turn over the ball, their 3 point shooting is very iffy, and can get very flustered very quickly.

Don't be scared of Calipari or Arkansas. They're a Xavier/UConn caliber team. We should win if we play our B/B+ game, but can lose if we no-show. That's every 2x7/10 game out there.

Arkansan here, I come in peace. Lol
From everything I’ve read, Thiero could have come back but his agent advised him sitting out the year to protect draft stock. I’d say it’s probably 50/50 he plays. Who knows! Also probably correct, gamesmanship and whatnot.

As many have said, we need to clean up the defensive rebounding or it could be a long night. Arkansas bigs are quick and athletic so inside baskets could be at a premium. We will need to hit our outside shots.

My take on why Coach had them shooting so many threes against Omaha was that he figured we can always come back and win so let’s work in our shooting early on, and that seemed to work. 😎👍

Glad Wilcher picked up the scoring slack and finally hit some threes as Smith is not playing up to his usual dynamic self which we will need to advance in the tourney.

I’m confident our D will overwhelm them as the game goes on.
I think he had us shoot so many 3s because they weren't defending the 3 at all , just packing the inside.

Thiero if he has been healthy and playing, would cause me consternation since he is the one reliable dog on that team with great size. But STJ is a brutally tough team to come back in a game situation for.
