(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #10 Arkansas, Sat., Mar. 22, 2:40p, CBS

Team really needs to do better on the boards. I think the fact we are such a superior offensive rebounding team sometimes masks our defensive rebounding shortcomings when look at overall statistics. really need to get more from Aaron on the boards defensively
I don’t think it’s even that masked. We are a poor defensive rebounding team outside of what we get from RJ, Kadary, and Deivon 1-3. Aaron and Zuby are one of the worst duos in the conference on the defensive glass but demons in the offensive glass.

We don’t box out well. That’s part of the reason Ayo has such an impact when he comes in….he always boxes out aggressively.

Agreed. Two athletic bigs who played better down the stretch. Thiero is still out, but Fland is back and had one game to knock the rust off. They essential used a 7-man rotation against KU, so hopefully we can wear them down.
Theiro being out would be huge for us. That kid is real problem.

If he’s out, they essentially play 7 guys. Ivisic played 4 minutes for them yesterday and looked terrible — which is crazy since he looked like a lottery pick in a game I watched earlier in the year.

An already injured Boogie got rocked a few times in the Kansas game too, so he should be compromised.

I hope those attending this game, when we are kicking ass with a minute to go, will start a “Looie, Looie, Looie” chant. Letting Coach Cal know that we have very long memories. Go Johnnies!

As many have said, we need to clean up the defensive rebounding or it could be a long night. Arkansas bigs are quick and athletic so inside baskets could be at a premium. We will need to hit our outside shots.

My take on why Coach had them shooting so many threes against Omaha was that he figured we can always come back and win so let’s work in our shooting early on, and that seemed to work. 😎👍

Glad Wilcher picked up the scoring slack and finally hit some threes as Smith is not playing up to his usual dynamic self which we will need to advance in the tourney.

I’m confident our D will overwhelm them as the game goes on.

Any scouts out there among our posters? Was interested in what Arkansas does well, and what they don't. Hopefully some of you watched games outside the Big East this season. I didn't see a lot except our early season OOC games. What aspects of their game can we exploit. They seem to be deep, and from what I saw yesterday, athletic.

I watched them go into Kentucky and beat them going away, by 10 but were up by as much as 13-15. Certainly not a team to be taken lightly. In that game, they had many players hitting threes and Wagner looked unstoppable at times. However seeing them against Kansas zone, their shooting was not that good. Then again we don’t play zone.

This will be a battle, we will have to bring the defensive intensity early on. Speaking of Wagner, I actually coached against his grandfather who played at Camden HS in New Jersey. Damn, how am I this f ing old?🤪
