NCAA Tournament Thread

Fwiw Lovett posted a pic on Instagram of him and Ellison in the gym working together today, could mean nothing

I'd take Brandon Sampson if he transfers. A year of practicing with the guys and then eligible in 2017-18, the year I expect us to be right there for a tournament

Agree with Dinkins assessment but would pass on Sampson.
We have one ship left for this season and Sampson would add nothing next season.
We must balance the classes and would rather one of the 2/3s the staff is after for 2017 like Randolph or Tucker as an example. Not looking for someone to compete against Shamorie from day 1.

Sense a transfer though North freeing up another slot.

Gotcha. Too bad as I like everyone but I see two players having a great deal of trouble getting pt going forward. Not to mention I have no clue as to Williams health and his skill level going forward.

Are we talking -- or dropping hints -- about Ellison?

Not me.

I like Ellison, big guard who can play multiple spots on the court and is a good athlete. He improved a lot already and will do so over next few years. I don't think we are losing him. He's gotten solid minutes and will continue to, especially as he improves.

I agree he is not going anywhere. He should work his tail off this summer or risk getting played over. It appears Mullin is bringing in very good players in next few years & Ellison will be challenged to differentiate himself from the pack in my opinion.

He will have to... Which is good for Ellison as well because he's not nearly as good as he can be...yet. What differentiates him I think is his size as a guard. He's 6'6" and 200 lbs. he needs to be able to shoot and use his dribble. Become a point forward who can also play PG. we have had success with guys like that in DJ Kennedy, Sir'Dom, etc. I think his ability to play multiple spots will help him carve a spot because he can step in as a PG or a PF in a pinch. He just has a lot of work to do yet.

I saw him "live" for the first time in the BE opener against Marquette, and was impressed with his energy, his passion, and his size. Hope he does stay.

I'm all for keeping friendly, well-liked Jersey kids happy, especially ones with with friendly, well-liked dads.

I don't think the team ever gets to where we want it to be without Jersey kids on the roster.

Mike Vacarro, New York Post:

@jeffMRJK: Being at MSG on Wednesday night as a St. John’s fan was epic. Can only imagine how crazy it could’ve been if the fan base showed up.

@MikeVacc: You find out a lot about fans during the bad times, far more than the good. The Johnnies have reason to feel good about their supporters.

I'll say this, Syracuse has no business making this tournament. They have only 19 wins, some really bad losses, finished 1-5 and lost in first round to Pitt. If they make it, the tourney committee will be making a tragic mistake. They just aren't a good team.

I can't believe I'm reading some articles that say they should take Cuse's losses with Boeheim out, out of the equation?? He was out because they cheated, and the successor to the throne (Mike Hopkins), is such a turd which is the reason they were that bad?

If they get in, it's a travesty...

Passing, defense and finishing need improvement. Comes from good stock, so no problem there.

As Barkley, Smith, Davis, etc droned on at CBS, the brackets were leaked on Twitter, lol

Yikes. The Hall vs Gonzaga at Denver is giving me flashbacks to Lavin's first year when the 'Zags took us out in Denver.

Syracuse makes the tournament as a 10 seed. Doug Gottlieb takes another shot at St John's after the announcement.

How the hell does Syracuse make it in? With 13 losses! And as Gottlieb just said again on national tv, "Any team that loses to St. John's should not be in the tournament."

I hate that he said that. But most of all, I hate that he's right!

anyone have any problems with any teams that got left out ? Was hoping that Monmouth got in

I'm pissed that syracuse got in

Committee did an absolute terrible job this year. I'd like to see an explanation. Some of these big schools like Syracuse and Michigan probably slipped the committee some money under the table.

It's just a real shame. College basketball isn't what it used to be. Teams get in on reputation and recognition not because they deserve it.

I don't agree with Syracuse getting in, but at least they had 5 Top 50 wins. On the flip side, RPI was 68, they were only 9-12 against the RPI Top 150 and only 2 of the 5 Top 50 wins came after Thanksgiving weekend.

Even worse were..

Michigan...RPI of 58, 4-12 against RPI Top 100 and only 11-9 without their leading scorer Caris LaVert who won't be available in the tournament.

Tulsa...RPI 61, 8-11 against RPI Top 150 and three bad losses including getting pummeled by Memphis on Friday.

I think St. Bonaventure, St. Mary's and Monmouth all would have been better choices. Obviously each had bad losses, but heir records against the Top 100 and Top 150 RPI were all significantly better.
