Good piece on Scheyer by Matt.

Btw people forget he was on Cragg's shortlist in 2019 right after Hurley and Moser said no. Duke connection.

Difficult to say how Scheyer would be at anywhere but Duke, where you’re essentially guaranteed to have top tier talent regardless of who the coach is.

If any of the other Coach K tree guys like Collins, Dawkins, Capel, Wojo etc. had stayed as an Asst and immediately taken over for him they might be having similar success. If Scheyer had gone the route of those guys taking a DePaul or UNLV he might be considered a middling coach by now too. Lot of it is all just circumstance

See but why would Duke automatically get top kids?

So are you saying Coach Kwas not the biggest reason?

Obviously Duke is a big brand name but the reason for that is K. And Scheyer was a big recruiter for him and did a lot of leg work so I don't necessarily think that anyone would have same success. I don't think any Dean Smith assistant would have been as good as Roy Williams? Especially when you consider Roy went to maybe the biggest program in America with no head coaching experience-Kansas and was brilliant there.

With all due respect you are totally full of it on this stuff.

I think Scheyer is a good young coach. But just look how EASILY the narrative on him would be totally different.

Look at last year you could make a case Jon Scheyer or anyone in his position would never have an EASIER game to reach the Final Four then he did last year. He faced an overmatched number 11 seeded NC St team in the Regional Final. And they lose. Again he may go to 10 FInal Fours in his career you can make a case he blew the EASIEST chance he ever would have.

If Shaka Smart lost a Regiuonal Final to a team seeded 7 spots lower then him with a roster full of top 50 high school All_Americans you would say, "See see he can't coach..."

Then let's say Caleb Love is able to hit a few late shots on Thursday and Arizona squeeks out a win vs Duke.

Again essentially SAME exact record he has now which is very good. But now he would have back to back failed runs to a Final Four, 1 where he had by FAARRR the better team in the Regional Final and 1 where he arguably has the best team in the country.

Is he any less of a coach?

What if Calipari and Kentucky don't pee down their leg the last 2 minutes of the 2022 first round game vs St Peter's ( I think they were up 7 or something) and they hold on. And St. Peter's does not have that run.

Sha is still the coach at SHU aftrer Willard leaves? But what exactly would be his major accomplishments after a 7-24 historically bad season?

Step 1: read less Twitter/X.

Step 2: watch more actual basketball games.

Step 3: be more respectful of your fellow posters (not me, I don't care about your opinions or your rudeness but it isn't fair to the other posters you talk at (not with)).

Duke is a blue blood, has a ton of money for NIL and a strong alumni network that provides opportunities for their players long after they're gone. Sure, Coach K was a huge draw for them but do you think the main reason Cooper Flagg, Kon Kneuppel and Khaman Maluach are playing for Duke this year is because they want to play for a 3rd year head coach that hadn't yet been to a Final 4 as a head coach? That would be ridiculous.

I don't think necessarily any Coach K assistant would be having the same success, but I definitely can't say for certain that an overall meh guy like Chris Collins wouldn't be or that Jon Scheyer would be successful at any other program.

Hubert Davis is obviously a below average coach, but even he got to a national championship game and a 1 seed in 4 years simply by it being UNC. If he and Wes Miller had swapped career paths it's possible Miller would be considered one of the best coaches in the country right now instead of being on the hot seat entering his 5th season at Cincinnati. If Hubert had to start at any other program he'd be back at ESPN by now.

I have Houston winning it all in my bracket and they are destroying Tennessee right now. They will not be intimidated by Duke.

I'm trying hard to root against Duke but I'm discovering that my dislike of them was apparently much more dependent on my hatred of their rat-faced former coach than I realized.

Self-discovery folks, it's a life long journey!
You need to have a deeper evaluation. Dislike should go well beyond k and to the root of their entitled self arrogance. Now that's something you can dislike. ;)

What if , what if, what if ?
But it isn’t what if.
Thé poster is discussing what is currently transpiring and not what might have , what could have or what should have happened. His put forth his opinion, again his opinion , in a respectful fashion. Something it appears you are unable to do.
If you wish to come to this board to discuss bball and differing opinions, please feel free to do so. But if you wish to come on to only espouse your opinion, again your opinion no more no less, and treat other posters without an iota of respect find another board.
“ with all due respect you are totally full of it “
Is anything but respectful.
I hope you will heed this warning.

What?

Houston plays great defense but Tennessee is ice cold. They are giving them open looks from 3 but they are 1-15. Just not there day.

Again I think it is fair to expect that they would not be recruiting at Seton Hall's level but no I don't think it was going ot be automatic because K is K and nobody knew how Scheyer would be until it happened.

Again though my larger point was I don't think it is that easy see Neptune at Villanova. I just think he deserves more credit then just getting a line of 5 star kids.

And again there is disappointment. Last year losing in the Reguional Final to a team 7 spots lower in the seed line and with a huge talent disparity had people asking questions.

And as you stated Hubert Davis has not been terrible but he has hardly set the world on fire with many of the same advantages.

Don’t ask what , my post was real clear.
But truth be told I am not surprised at your response perhaps due to a total lack of awareness on your part or intentionally posting to insult.
Please be aware similar posts will not be tolerated.
Don't respond to my posts and I won't to yours. Your entire post is drivel.

Saying someone is full of it is hardly an insult.

I will save what I think of you.

Buit don't respond to me again.

Remember you started this not me.

One last time you inserted yourself into something I did not ask you to.

Your entire post is simultanseously trying to defend someone else while attacking me.

That is on you.
