You get 4!If the goal is to win the game:
I’ll go Kemba-Steph-JJ-Melo-Okafor. Strong preference to upperclassmen, but Melo was so dominant as a freshman.
I have a hard time taking melo over Davis. National POY as a freshmen.

I also give the slight nod to Melo because it was a pre-one & done era championship. Extremely impressive and unique what he was able to do.A basketball Mt. Rushmore needs 5If not, it’s more of a celebration of college accolades then? If so, you have to take all upperclassmen.
Davis and Melo were the two most impactful freshmen I’ve seen in my life. It’s very close. I just feel that an uber-skilled 4 that is athletic enough to play on the perimeter and big/strong enough to play inside can do it all in college and you can’t hide from them. Davis needed more help, but he was amazing in what he did.
To have the fourth most shots on the team yet still lead them and scoring and have the impact he did I find it incredible. We talk about zuby being able to defend every spot on the court, not sure there has been anyone as good defending 1-5 as Davis was. Not to downplay what melo did because it was also unreal.A basketball Mt. Rushmore needs 5If not, it’s more of a celebration of college accolades then? If so, you have to take all upperclassmen.

Davis was incredible. Sounds like he left you just as scarred as he left me after dominating us that year. Melo was a freaking unicorn, though. He averaged 10 rebounds per game while possessing a complete set of guard skills. He was big and strong enough to play the 5, but skilled enough to run point. To have the fourth most shots on the team yet still lead them and scoring and have the impact he did I find it incredible. Also I love how you bought this back to Hopkins![]()
But then what about Hansbrough and Okafor who also won?You have to go with guys who won championships. Anthony, Brunson , Davis and Kemba Walker
Gone are the days of Alligator Athleticism and in are the days of the Jiu Jitsu JaguarDavis was incredible. Sounds like he left you just as scarred as he left me after dominating us that year. Hopkins shares some of those traits. Those hybrid forwards are like Jaguars...you can't hide from them in college. Jaguars can outrun you, out-climb you, out-swim you, and even dive 10-12 meters while holding their breath for up to 20 minutes. That was Melo in college. He'll take the ball up, out-physical any perimeter player down low, out-maneuver any big man inside or out, and crash the glass like an All-American 5.
Everyone except you (and me, since I put him on the list) has forgotten how damn good Okafor was.But then what about Hansbrough and Okafor who also won?
Melo and Davis dominated and won the championship as freshmen. Walker had perhaps the greatest run in NCAA history. You have to go with guys who won championships. Anthony, Brunson , Davis and Kemba Walker
Brunson, main cog of not, played a big role on a NCAA championship as a Freshmen as well. Gotta count for something too no?Melo and Davis dominated and won the championship as freshmen. Walker had perhaps the greatest run in NCAA history.
Brunson won, and was an absolutely vital part of his team, but basically everyone he played with went to the NBA. He was just not as individually dominant as the other 3.
I put Curry there on the strength of that his teams were basically as good as he was (and he was really, really good). But I could easily be persuaded to put Hansbrough or Redick there. As much as I loved McDermott and Okafor as players, I think they are probably a bit behind the other 2.
Well, he is in the Mount Rushmore conversation so that counts for something!Brunson, main cog of not, played a big role on a NCAA championship as a Freshmen as well. Gotta count for something too no?
Thought briefly about Joakim Noah as a candidate.no one from Florida’s (Donovan’s) back to back titles in ‘06 & ‘07?
Thing is, he, Horford and Taurean Green were all so good on those two championship teams.Thought briefly about Joakim Noah as a candidate.
