If the goal is to win the game:

I’ll go Kemba-Steph-JJ-Melo-Okafor. Strong preference to upperclassmen, but Melo was so dominant as a freshman.
You get 4!

I have a hard time taking melo over Davis. National POY as a freshmen.

A bit surprised that Curry is currently the overall leader here. Don't get me wrong, he's in my top 4. But probably third, not first. Feels as though his college career is getting some glow-up from his pro career in the votes so far

A basketball Mt. Rushmore needs 5😂 If not, it’s more of a celebration of college accolades then? If so, you have to take all upperclassmen.

Davis and Melo were the two most impactful freshmen I’ve seen in my life. It’s very close. I just feel that an uber-skilled 4 that is athletic enough to play on the perimeter and big/strong enough to play inside can do it all in college and you can’t hide from them. Davis needed more help, but he was amazing in what he did.

I also give the slight nod to Melo because it was a pre-one & done era championship. Extremely impressive and unique what he was able to do.

To have the fourth most shots on the team yet still lead them and scoring and have the impact he did I find it incredible. We talk about zuby being able to defend every spot on the court, not sure there has been anyone as good defending 1-5 as Davis was. Not to downplay what melo did because it was also unreal.

Also I love how you brought this back to Hopkins 😆

Davis was incredible. Sounds like he left you just as scarred as he left me after dominating us that year. Melo was a freaking unicorn, though. He averaged 10 rebounds per game while possessing a complete set of guard skills. He was big and strong enough to play the 5, but skilled enough to run point.

Hopkins shares some of those traits. Those hybrid forwards are like Jaguars...you can't hide from them in college. Jaguars can outrun you, out-climb you, out-swim you, and even dive 10-12 meters while holding their breath for up to 20 minutes. That was Melo in college. He'll take the ball up, out-physical any perimeter player down low, out-maneuver any big man inside or out, and crash the glass like an All-American 5.

You have to go with guys who won championships. Anthony, Brunson , Davis and Kemba Walker

Gone are the days of Alligator Athleticism and in are the days of the Jiu Jitsu Jaguar

Melo and Davis dominated and won the championship as freshmen. Walker had perhaps the greatest run in NCAA history.

Brunson won, and was an absolutely vital part of his team, but basically everyone he played with went to the NBA. He was just not as individually dominant as the other 3.

I put Curry there on the strength of that his teams were basically as good as he was (and he was really, really good). But I could easily be persuaded to put Hansbrough or Redick there. As much as I loved McDermott and Okafor as players, I think they are probably a bit behind the other 2.

Brunson, main cog of not, played a big role on a NCAA championship as a Freshmen as well. Gotta count for something too no?

I am unable to clearly come up with a top 4 which tells me the impact these guys had pales in comparison to pre 2000 college guys Mount Rushmore.

And brewer!
Who they nicknamed “The Drunken Dribbler.”

Those back to back champions were also had sharpshooter Jay Humphrey (who was one class ahead of the other four starters) and key reserves Chris Richards, Hodge, and Spreights.
