NCAA Investigation into Duke Official

I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout as I expected 70-30 Duke and I think it was around 50-50.

Are students and other spectators only show up for Duke, but not some very competitive Big East teams, really FANS of the program? Some spectators come to the Duke game every time they play us at MSG, cheer like crazy as if they are rabid Johnny fans, but stay home for some very good Big East contests.

Are these spectators really fans of a program? I would say that they think they are. In our case for the past two seasons the team has been teetering on the brink of an NCAA bid, but fans mostly stay home. I'm guessing had we beaten Duke, at least some of those fans would appear at other games this season.

In general, there is a downward trend in attendance at college basketball games. good article discussing this for BC:

SHEED walked and the ref forgave it.

False

Don't disrespect my friend Dave. The man knows and loves SJU hoops. :) Travel or no travel, foul or no foul, the play looked funky, and whistle worthy. Give the ref even a little credit for exercising some humility for indicating that he blew the whistle prematurely and inadvertently.

No disrespect whatsoever. But I've seen that replay many times and it wasn't a travel.

Which is why the ref retracted the whistle. Admit it came at a horrible point for us where nothing was going right.

Same damn thing happened against Marquette.
Is that coincidense or the refs have something against SJU?

I'm gonna go with coincidence---although I was glad when I saw that Jim Burr wasn't doing the game. We were playing at a very fast pace and, as a result, some plays don't look very fluid. Sometimes that results in a quick whistle. When the ref realized, or was told by the other ref, that the ball had been hit from behind, he took back the call. Unfortunate, but not intentional.

The same thing goes for Dlo's long pass, Dom's botched alley oop and his missed dunk. You play at a frenetic pace, you get some mistakes. But it is that pace that allowed us to play with Duke. Had we slowed the ball down and tried to play a halfcourt game, we would have lost by thirty.

Good call on the pace. We took the ball right at them, and pushed it up court, with Dom frequently leading the charge. In the opening minutes he threw up a crazy shot with his back to the basket as he drove the length of the court. Had he made it, it was highlight film worthy, but instead hit the front of the rim. Actually for all of that, we turned them over much more then we turned the ball over.

Jack is 100% right. She'd had the ball then the Duke defender deflected it which caused Sheed to look like he traveled but the rulebook states that in a situation like that If the defender deflects the ball it isn't a travel.

I think the refs went and saw that and then awarded us the ball. Bad end of the call for us but we did get the trey right before half time which obviously shouldn't have counted.
