NCAA Investigation into Duke Official

Harrison is hurt. That is clear as day. I think it is in his head too. A bad combination for a scorer like him. You just gotta hope and pray he can get start to feel better.

It does seem to be mental, he is thinking too much before he shoots

Just my opinion, but I don't see much lift on most of his shots & his cuts off screens seem slower. These are just observations over past several games. We'll see.

Monte concurs ;)

Losing the game wasnt bad enough but as I left the Garden I heard two Duke fans talking. One said how fortunate they were to come from behind, the other said. That is what Duke does, we do it all the time especially against teams like this. I could have turned and said something but I just kept on moving.
What would you have said? Yeah, you're right?

We are in a much better situation then we were to make the tournament than we were last year at around the same time. Do we have the ability to stretch together enough wins with Harrison hurting is the question.

Andrew2, you should be asking: Do we have the ability to stretch together enough wins with Lavin playing Harrison 35 minutes without resting him in spurts? From my personal observation he doesn't appear as "hurt" as people think here. He has always been a streak shooter capable of poor shot selection and shooting short. I think we are just seeing the Mr. Hyde part of his game and sooner or later he will snap out of it.

Agree

Or he's not pushing off as much on one leg and it is causing him not to be balanced on his shot. Just because he isn't using it as an excuse (admirable) doesn't mean it isn't affecting his shot.

D'lo obviously wants to play as most hard nosed players do but Lavin's job is to win games. A player playing hurt becomes a liability when his speed is affected or his movement is restricted. We have one of the best trainers in college ball. Hopefully he has had the proper professional input along with the team physician to guide the staff in the use of the player. It is unfortunate that the questionable use of substitutions always resurfaces with our team. Ironically it is in the front court where our depth has been affected but we never seem to know how Lavin will use JDR or Amar. Being a glutton for punishment I replayed some of the game, mostly in fast forward and what escaped me during the game since I missed the close up look of the JDR foul was that Lavin seemingly was not happy with the aggressive play and subsequently buried JDR on the bench. In retrospect, what we needed to bump Plumlee was bypassed by the wizard in favor of a guard having a terrible game playing hurt. Even Amar's aggressiveness would have been better than a hurt Harrison. I guess from what some of you suppose regarding Harrison's game readiness it come down to Lavin's decision making and that is regretable.

Delarosa didn't play anymore cause he was too slow and not good enough to guard anyone on duke.

And you want Harrison out for amar????? I have no words for that one

I agree the Refs didn't cost us the game but it is annoying to see Coach K talking to the Refs after after play. He wasn't arguing but I bet he wasn't discussing what toppings to put on the Pizza.

Just saw your post PSK. I was pretty close to action and what was painfully obvious when Plumlee was in during the Duke run were the mismatches created. You may not have words because you obviously missed the couple of times Harrison got caught guarding Plumlee on switches. At that point Harrison had trouble guarding his Duke guard counterpart. We lost most rebounds from that point on. I was not suggesting Amar would solve the Plumlee problem, especially since Marshall was a McDonald AA, but Harrison became a liability.

Yeah, that play didn't cost us the game, but didn't we get screwed vs. Marquette on a fast break? Then they say "it's a no call.
It"s not about if that play cost us the game or not, it's about why are the gd refs screwing us? It's bs.
Please don't say I'm overreacting too.

It's not necessarily the 2 points missed it's the momentum absolutely getting sucked away on that play

I don't blame the refs for our loss at all, but agree it was a momentum killer.

Twice during the game (the inadvertent whistle and the blown ally-hoop) I felt Johnny fans were about to blow the roof off, but.......

On the inadvertent whistle people were ready to explode and started to jump out of their seats. That play was about to bring the house down and I honestly believe would have knocked Duke out to a point where they wouldn't come back. You could hear a pin drop after that damn play because it got so quiet.

It was a WTF moment, but in reality, a good team gets past that and comes down and scores. Be thankful the guy who blew the whistle didn't cover it up by calling a foul on the strip

Some takeaways from the Duke game.
Pointer played like a man possessed and was great despite playing out of control at times and blowing some opportunities.
Air Jordan 2 had a great 1st half and showed his abilities and potential but needs to bring it for the whole game and every game.
I thought Oblockpa played pretty good defense overall and rebounded pretty well. For such a great shot blocker/leaper it is amazing that he reminds me of Charles Smith trying to finish on offense. Especially with his free throw shooting he needs to finish strong.
Dlo is a warrior but I would have played him much less minutes because I believe he is hurting and it is affecting his play and the team.
People say the 4th is just a spot up shooter but I like his offensive game and thought he played pretty well. He is good at driving to the hoop and on his floaters in the lane.
I would have given Amar, Stewart and Branch more minutes. Especially when it became a 2 possession game or more in the last minute, you need to have some 3 point shooters in. Having Obekpa in with 4 fouls and no offensive ability and Dlo taking his 5th foul made no sense. For some reason, Lavin never puts in 3 point shooters in the last minute when it is their only hope. Fouling guys that never miss and then going for contested layups has no mathematical chance of success. He needs to go for the steal in that situation even if some time comes off the clock and at least get it in the hands of a lesser FT shooter. Maybe I'm just frustrated because I thought I would at least win my SJU +8 wager.
I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout as I expected 70-30 Duke and I think it was around 50-50. Had some Maryland fans that came to root against Coach K sitting in front of me. It was one of the most electric environments I can remember at the Garden.
My 3 daughters had a great time except for the result. I am a little worried that my 6 year old told me that my 9 year old said she wanted to kick the Duke players in the private parts when they were going on their run.
If they play like they did for most of the game and DLo is healthy this could be a fun run. They are usually very exciting watch.

Don't you think Lavin should have co.e up with some different play when he saw the lead dwindling like Coach K did? Or isn't he capable?

He'd be a lot more capable on the bench if he had Duke's roster.

Just as Phil Jackson looked really great coaching Shaq and Kobe and Jordan but was smart to get out when the team wasn't championship caliber anymore. Same with Riley.

SHEED walked and the ref forgave it. Agree Lavin would have won if he had a bigger team and a longer bench. Are we posters responsible for that?
