NBC Sports with huge offer to Big East

reportedly NBC has made a huge offer to the Big East of 14 million for football and basketball and 4 million for basketball only. This is close to the ACC and would be sweet for envy for departing schools.

Sources suggest that if NBC, which is desperate for sports inventory, signs a TV contract with the conference, it would be willing to pay the Big East football teams $10 milllion apiece and throw in an additional $4 million for the 16 basketball schools. One of the network’s ideas may be to run a full day of Big East football, along with Notre Dame home games, from noon to midnight Saturdays on either NBC or its still-growing cable channel.

Considering what they turned down and that this sounds like more $ this could be a really good deal. A win-win for everyone

 awesome... great to hear this...

Big $'s for Big East long-term viability + Lavin the Wizard Recruiter + NYC/MSG + Success of SJU players in NBA = Good times for us for years to come. I'm psyched.

I've been living in NYC now for over 10 years and I grew up nearby in the suburbs... and I am still in awe of this city. What a great opportunity we have to make this a special program again...

Let's hope it's true... Would be great. League needs to regroup and make a big hire with a forward thinking commish as well. Squash the ACC and keep em in Greensboro. With a big deal, teams aren't making a jump. Now if we can just sign that deal with massive exit clauses and the ACC loses FSU and another "big gun"., we'll be ok.

Agreed on the massive exit fees - that is is a must-do...

Dick Weiss of the New York Daily News wrote about a potential NBC contract that would pay every football school $10 million per season, plus another $4 million for the basketball schools.

How much has St.John's been paid under the existing contract?

Thanks.

So if Big East bball members get a raise of roughly $3mm (new $4mm - current $1mm), does that mean my season ticket prices will go down? :woohoo:

You really think season tickets are too much????

I'm teasing.... Though when i think about it, face value of tickets of msg games are like $50 or $70, right? I can't remember from this past season. Not the cheapest, but comparable to other forms of entertainment in nyc... though it does add up when you buy multiple seats so you can bring family/buddies.

Thanks - it's a good idea, but I'll continue to pay up to get up an up close view of the wins this season..

The face of the ticket says that amount. But if you have season tickets and divide the total number into the games played, it does not come close to that amount.

500-600 to me is not bad especially in NY. Other schools are more and often require donations just to buy tickets.

Ah thanks... i couldn't remember the math from this past season... i do remember looking the face value and raising an eyebrow at the number. if what you are saying is true, then that it makes sense and is good know/remember.

What happens when there are multiple BE games played on the same day and time frame? On ESPN you had multiple networks. I don't think SNY and the MSG networks can handle the extra coverage, especially MSG if there are Knick, Ranger, Devil or Islander games which would take priority. SNY kinda plays the BE field so that might not be the answer either.

Just wondering.
