all part of the process of SJU getting back on the map, upgrading the talent of the kids etc. Thanks for post

Very telling indeed.

O/U for current players on the roster being in the NBA for 5+ years is 2.5 players. If we hit that over I’d expect this year will include a deep run!

Good stuff! I'm surprised we can't find a way to get Porzingis and some other guys on campus for some events. I know the season's starting tomorrow, but just seems to be easy to do if we wanted it.

Everyone we are recruiting should see this.

Watched St. John's get up and down extensively. Fun practice. Mustapha Heron looks as advertised, physical and a certified bucket getter. Marvin Clark is a perfect small-ball big, an absolute man. Shot it well too. Freshman Greg Williams surprised me. Great defender. Very mature.

In Queens today watching St. John's practice. Probably the most talented Johnnies team NYC has had since I moved here in 2008. Quite a bit of excitement brewing. Getting Mustapha Heron immediately eligible was huge. Looks like they'll play four guards/wings together a lot.

Not sure Trimble loves hearing it, though.

Trimble is the best shooter from 3 on the team. If he hits the shots when he plays he has nothing to worry about

Agree here Moose, although Clark pretty good too. Williams is a sick athlete and hearing he’s a defensive guy is even better. Both have plenty of space for a good role on this team. Trimble shot an insane percentage from 3 in HS and I suspect his freshman jitters and out-of-shape slump will end. He’s a big body, strong, good passer and excellent shooter. Trimble a big asset off the bench on offense. Sub him for Williams on D if they like..

Doubt there's a problem, if Trimble hits '3's, and Williams smothers the offense.

Agree Chicago - all good news as it should allow us to play a 9 or 10 man rotation with both Trimble and Williams getting somewhere in the 10-15 mpg range.

No way will they both get those minutes. That’s 20-30 minutes taken away from the 2-3 spots where we are loaded. I think it will be an either or situation for these two. Williams on nights we need defense, Trimble on nights we need offense. Don’t envision them getting a bunch of burn together.

I agree that minutes will be dominated by our top 7 guys.
I figure there's 20 minutes a game after our top 7.
So, if Trimble's 3 point game is reliable, and Williams plays stout D--they'll both get some minutes--roughly 7-8 minutes each in many games, with spot PT for Roberts and Earlington.
PT for the bench will likely be more generous in our OOC schedule, and Robert's may get more time, if effective, on nights Clark / Keita are in foul trouble.

I respectfully disagree somewhat, although I do agree that they won't likely play a lot together and combined minutes will be more like 20 than 30. Below are the kind of minutes I could see split among our team especially if the idea is to have everyone rested. Auburn was extremely successful last year playing 9 guys between 14 and 31 mpg with Heron playing 29. I think there will be plenty of time where Clark is playing center with some combination of Simon, Heron, Ponds, Dixon, Trimble & Williams. I could be way off with my estimated minutes and any of Trimble, Williams & Roberts could get more or less, only time will tell. However, l don't think we want anyone playing much over 30 mpg to avoid the kind of fatigue that killed us at the end of games last year. Just my opinion.
Ponds: 30
Heron: 29
Simon: 29
Clark: 25
Figueroa : 23
Keita: 22
Dixon: 20
Trimble: 11-12
Williams: 7-8
Roberts: 3

If we can consistently rely upon 20+ mpg from Keita that will be major. 8-10 from Roberts would be a great sign too unless it was due to Keita foul problems. Ponds, Heron and Simon averaging around 25 and fresh for the last 5 is to me the sweet spot where we can close out games without the fatigue that has killed us with guys playing too many minutes.

Figueroa looks and sounds good but I don't think we necessarily have to pencil him in for 20+ If the plan is to play uptempo full court then that may affect Trimble and Williams minutes. But if Williams is ready to play that is more unexpected good news. Playing with these guys has to be helping him. So many different looks from our guards: speed, athleticism, shooting, playmaking, length, size.

Show me a college team that sat its far and away best 3 players 15 minutes a game. If you guys insist on 10 guys playing, the "other" 7 guys not named Ponds, Heron & Simon can split up the 100 minutes leftover. Our big 3 will play a combined 100.
