NBA Combine

We sometimes may forget Shamorie is just completing his Sophomore year . The great Year he just had , projected him further along than many of us expected of this young Man . And, sooner . It also appeaes the Ponds family and Shamorie himself have a total awareness of how his BB future should play out and that may include another Season here in all likelihood . Its my opinion too, the Ponds family values CM’s input and the role Chris and Staff have played in getting his Game to the high level it is now .
I agree with you Sly.
Seems like Shamorie and CM are close and Shamorie's dad is keen on evaluating his son's future.
I expect Ponds to return to St. John's and agree he will likely have a year for the record books that would position him well for the 2019 NBA Draft.
We shall see, the thing that remains to be seen is will Ponds commit to improving weaknesses, mostly defense. He was the one returning player who did not buy into the defensive commitment and that needs to change if he wants the NBA. So does his shot selection. He is obviously an amazing talent with the ball, IMO he rivals Tiny as the best truly small player to score in the paint almost at will, albeit in college at this point. So I am not comparing him to Tiny, I am just saying he has that same ability to score inside consistently, trees or no trees. So let’s see if he can tighten up the rest of his game.
Good points, Logen. But I think Shamorie knows what he has to work on and that will ikely be reinforced on him by NBA feedback. I’d say shot selection, finishing drives, and defense.
The hidden ace on our roster might be LJF.
If he provides solid scoring, that’ll free up Shamorie, making him more dangerous and effective.
We shall see.
I agree he knows what to work on but doing it is an entirely different thing. Do you think Mullin preached defense to everyone but Ponds? It really boils down, as always, to money. If he wants to make $ and doesn’t mind going overseas, he bolts. If he wants a legitimate shot at the NBA, he stays. I certainly can’t know but IMO, he will not improve his game overseas enough to ever make the league. He will be a star somewhere putting up a ton of points and defense will remain an afterthought.
Good points, Logen. Your views are as good as anyone else’s since they border on the unknown.
I’m not sure if Shamorie knows what he’ll do—assuming he’ll take his finals. If not, the ‘decision’ is being made for him.
Otherwise, dunno how the kid will compute ‘Europe’ and $$’s against his NBA dreams against one more year honing his game at St. John’s.

The fact that he's still in class has to be seen as a good sign that he's taking the consultation phase seriously and not just giving returning to school lip service.

Classes ended last week. Finals week now.

Maybe he was in an extra help class (the kind of class I frequented). ;) :)

I've given up trying to read the minds of players and their advisers.
We get what we get.

Thanks for posting capmaker. Can't blame Shamorie for getting everything he can out of the process. The more workouts he has, the more constructive feedback he gets. Although we won't breathe easy until he makes his decision, sure sounds like he will be best served by another year at SJU.

Ponds aside, it is hard to see how none of those SH guys got invites, especially Delgado. I guess scouts don't like his game for some reason? I would love him on my team.

The Delgado snub makes sense in that, NBA execs that just look at some stats - don't wan to give him a sniff. He's the opposite of what every nba team wants these days. He's an undersized big man, that can't shoot FTs, let alone shoot from the outside.

I suppose, but he's a beast on the glass. I am not sure he is undersized, and I believe he will eventually play somewhere.

Donte DiVincenzo hits a trey from way beyond the arc, his second in the first 5 minutes. The @NovaMBB sharpshooter is certainly helping himself in 5-on-5. #NBADraft

Jay Wright has to be grinning ear to ear. Spellman canned a triple, then DiVincenzo hit one on the ensuing possession. @NovaMBB taking over @NBADraft Combine.

Omari Spellman is shining early on in 5-on-5 action. Just canned a triple, then 3 possessions later dashes in and grabs a board for the putback. Azubuike having trouble staying on him. @NovaMBB @BIGEASTMBB

First 5 on 5 game starting at the combine. Donte DiVincenzo strokes a nice three. He looks real big out there too. Measured at 6-4 1/2 in shoes. @TheAthleticCBB

No need to shed tears when you have won 2 out of the last 3 NCs and have the influx of talent that Nova has.

@PaulBiancardi
Spoke with a few NBA scouts, after day 1 of the #NBADraftCombine - Most impressive? Omari Spellman & Donte DiVincenzo. #Nova
Biggest Surprise? Kevin Huerter #Maryland
