We sometimes may forget Shamorie is just completing his Sophomore year . The great Year he just had , projected him further along than many of us expected of this young Man . And, sooner . It also appeaes the Ponds family and Shamorie himself have a total awareness of how his BB future should play out and that may include another Season here in all likelihood . Its my opinion too, the Ponds family values CM’s input and the role Chris and Staff have played in getting his Game to the high level it is now .
I agree with you Sly.
Seems like Shamorie and CM are close and Shamorie's dad is keen on evaluating his son's future.
I expect Ponds to return to St. John's and agree he will likely have a year for the record books that would position him well for the 2019 NBA Draft.
We shall see, the thing that remains to be seen is will Ponds commit to improving weaknesses, mostly defense. He was the one returning player who did not buy into the defensive commitment and that needs to change if he wants the NBA. So does his shot selection. He is obviously an amazing talent with the ball, IMO he rivals Tiny as the best truly small player to score in the paint almost at will, albeit in college at this point. So I am not comparing him to Tiny, I am just saying he has that same ability to score inside consistently, trees or no trees. So let’s see if he can tighten up the rest of his game.
Good points, Logen. But I think Shamorie knows what he has to work on and that will ikely be reinforced on him by NBA feedback. I’d say shot selection, finishing drives, and defense.
The hidden ace on our roster might be LJF.
If he provides solid scoring, that’ll free up Shamorie, making him more dangerous and effective.
We shall see.
I agree he knows what to work on but doing it is an entirely different thing. Do you think Mullin preached defense to everyone but Ponds? It really boils down, as always, to money. If he wants to make $ and doesn’t mind going overseas, he bolts. If he wants a legitimate shot at the NBA, he stays. I certainly can’t know but IMO, he will not improve his game overseas enough to ever make the league. He will be a star somewhere putting up a ton of points and defense will remain an afterthought.
