Music And All Things BrookJersey (Moran)

This song and this album up there with my All Time favorites, John Prine was a supremely talented songwriter, just ask Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Gordan Lightfoot, they all agreed.

Surprised I hadn’t posted this, my absolute favorite love song! Shows Prine’s great ability to write humorous lyrics with the most poignant of messages. With the great Iris DeMent.

Absolute gem from top-form Prine, another great tongue in cheek humorous one is the classic Dear Abby...

Ditto on “Dear Abby”!
As for Dylan, he was a huge fan of Prine’s, I saw him sit in with Prine once at The Bitter End, played the harmonica and backing vocals on 3 or 4 songs; I believe it was shortly after the release of Prine’s first album, “if my memory serves me well”.

Could not resist adding this; from the same live session “In Spite of Ourselves is from; I have read Dylan considered this an example of great songwriting. Different version than the recorded one, which prominently features an organ. It is on the “Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings” album

Prine's perfect song, "Jesus: The Missing Years", on a John Prine roll here, he's so great.

Anyone here into Irish Punk, the former band Black '47 used to pay in NYC at Paddy Reilly's Music Bar on Second Ave in Kips Bay every Saturday night real late and I was there for dozens and dozens of shows, they gave great live shows:

Here's two samples, one funky other hip hoppy, one with Larry Kirwin, band leader and normal lead singer, other Chris Byrne (former NYC cop, song tells his real cop story, he got shot by a drug dealer):

Black 47, one of my older brothers all time favorite live bands; he too saw them countless times. I have to believe you guys crossed paths…….

Prolific but largely unknown outside of his fan base singer/songwriter. Lived in that long line of “next Dylan” for a short while. He has opened for The Who and Roger Daltry and toured with Ani DeFranco. Starting in1997, he has recorded 22 studio albums, 2 live, 7 EPs, is a painter and author of two adult books and a few children’s as well as hosting several internet shows.
Very unique and unusual lyricist, overall sports fan, but huge baseball fan. For proof, check out “Gambling With My Love” which deals with a neglected lover due to a play being written about Bart Giamatti and Pete Rose.
This is a stream of consciousness song (kinda) off his first record.

This is from his second album and a warning, the lyrics are a bit raunchy. But they show Dan’s ability to seemingly be singing nonsense until the song ends and you realize it ties together, in this case in a very general sense not being afraid to “go for it”.

is about Johnnies fans, right now?

Saw Peter Wolf at the Fleet Center, closing out with Springsteen, singing Dirty Water.
Wolf has a good book out right now, quick read, “Waiting on the Moon.” Not an autobiography, just stories about the people he met along his way in life.

Any Uncle Tupelo fans here?

Who's Uncle Tupelo? Essentially two teenagers from suburban St. Louis who in the late 80s, early 90s to their love of country, folk, rock and punk to create a new sound called alternative country.

They would break up. Jeff Tweedy would form the more famous Wilco and Jay Farrar would form Son Volt.

But for my money, Uncle Tupelo records are their high water mark.

Definite Uncle Tupelo fan, could not agree more about their work as Uncle Tupelo, thought Wilco and Son Volt were far inferior to their work together

Dan Bern unique talent, had a good song about Kurt Cobain, called Kurt Cobain.

Some of the best alternative music ever recorded.
