(MSG) Duke, Sat. Feb. 3, Noon, FOX/570AM

This is a very young Duke team with only senior Grayson Allen (14.8 PPG, 4.5 APG) with significant years of experience in the main rotation. They have a super strong inside game led by two extremly gifted freshman bigs Marvin Bagley III and Wendell Carter (14.5 PPG, 9.3 Reb 617 FG %). Bagley III, in particular, is immensely talented. He has had seventeen double doubles already this season and shoots 60 % from the field while averaging better than a double double for the season (21.5 PPG and 11.4 Reb). He is probably going to be the NBA number one pick in this year's draft and if not the number one certainly very close to it (two or three at the lowest). There are other very good Freshman in the regular rotation including point guard Trey Duval (11.3 PPG, 6.0 APG) and shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. (14.7 PPG, 4.4 Reb). Both of these Freshman are important pieces.

Despite all of this really great young talent this Duke team has not yet grown into the defensive buzzsaw that has characterized some of their best teams. They definitely can be scored on and like young gifted teams sometimes do have lapses during sections of games and ultimately try to rely on their superior talent to overcome that.

Also on the road in the ACC Duke is just 3 and 2. They lost on the road to BC by five and NC State by eleven. Their three wins were at Miami by eight, at Wake Forest by fourteen and by thirty five against last place Pittsburgh.

Personally I believe we can play competitively if Bagley III and Carter don't totally destroy us on the inside and get our rim protectors (Owens, Yakwe) in early foul trouble. The spread at eleven seems about right to me. Covering that would not be inconceivable in my opinion.

Go St. John's!!!!

per Zach

St. John’s will play host to the entire Christ the King team for Saturday’s game against Duke at the Garden, highlighted by top junior target, four-star forward Kofi Cockburn, and elite freshman forward Moussa Cisse. The Johnnies will also have five-star juniors Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis of the Ranney School (N.J.) and local sophomores Zed Key , Gary Grant and Nate Tabor , among others, as visitors for the game.

Back in day @Macys never told #Gimbels what it was doing. Back in day college coaches never told opposing coaches&scribes be it pro or the amatuer type who they r recruiting.Loose Lips sink ships when ur dealing with2 amateurs it never ends nicely! Keep ur mouth shut &do ur job!

He knows who he is. We know who he is. Never saw such an unacomplished coach get or seek the publicity he receives 4 little he has delivered to date. If u r taking all the credit for the roster then u Shud take credit for all the losses. This clown points fingers at fellow staff.

Do you mean tweets like this from matt?:

Never a consolation prize to have moral victories. Nobody in our program feels good. Nothing worthwhile is ever easily achieved. We will stick with each other, stay committed to knowing we are close & must earn the right to win. I know better days are ahead #sjubb

Nice kid!

Good luck @StJohnsBBall , big game tonight! ?? #SJUvsDUKE

Best of luck to the team today! Hope all the redmen.comers attending enjoy the day. 0-11 record or not, I am pretty sure Garden atmosphere will be electric. Glad Yakwe is back to give us another big body to throw at the two Duke star big men. I think we are due for both Simon and Shamorie to have excellent games. Hoping for the best.

Whopper, Mussini ? Good tip of the hat by you to my well documented Paisan.. I hope , but don’t expect , more respect for him among the faithful . He played PG as a frost, which is not his position . Last year as a non starter , he played quality minutes and always put out 100 percent . Plus Shooting 3’s at 42 percent is pretty special . And , he shot over 150 attempts, not 15 !

Sitting this one out after hurting my back at the Xavier game. Hope the team shows its best on national television.

Any of us take a Win today and still go winless in BE? Me ? No, I wouldn’t.. I still think we can beat DePaul, split with Marquette , beat Butler at home , and upset PC .

72, who will be Impact players coming in next season ? I know Brooks is highly rated but, not much about the other incoming . I think we desperately need a 5th transfer 6’10 , European with good inside moves and ability to rebound and give us 10 a game , as a starter or sub . Plus , need 1 really outstanding sharpshooter from 3 , like Rousey on Marquette . Can Matt do the job ! I have doubts .

Nice warm exchange between Chris & Coach K a few minutes ago. Have to think Coach K was offering words of encouragement.

The first three Duke buckets are poorly contested 3s. This team still doesn't get that part of the game.

Make that the first 4 Duke buckets poorly contested 3s. It really is ridiculous.

Duke has no respect at all for Owens. Leaving him wide open down low. Let's keep getting him the ball if they want to keep that up.

These are the kind of shots I like Owens getting. That Ahmed foul was a killer; so unnecessary.
