Had to sell my tickets due to a family emergency, but hopefully we can stay competitive.

I hope things work out okay.

Since Lovett thing you can say this about every team we have played, but this is a very bad match-up. I mean 4th seed vs team that hasn't won since December but it goes beyond that. My 2nd favorite team is whatever team Duke is playing. I have seen them a lot they are really good obviously but they can shoot and are big. Nightmare. If we lose by under 10 Chris Mullin should get BE coach of the year votes. Coach K calls off dogs out of respect for Mullin at 12 minute mark. Duke 88-ST John's 54.

Can't wait until people on the boards post all the things Mullin should have done to win the game. Should be fun reading.

Should've hijacked the Duke team bus when it left the hotel on the way to MSG.

Duke and M.K. wanted Mullin in the worst way, they've stayed friends and the one thing about Coach K. you have to say he is always respectful (like Bobby Knight) when he talks about St. John's BB and tradition.

I was at the Artest double overtime heartbreaker with Duke at MSG (what a freaking game that was), and after the game Coach K said he wished neither team had to end up losing, he complimented the Johnnies up and down.

I think it is good to play this game, keeps excitement around the program even when we are not good. Looking forward is there an expectation to play a big out of conference home game next year? With attendance down and more games on campus tomorrow should be a good revenue generator. With Syracuse seemingly off the radar i wonder who they may try to play going forward.

I was there too. Great game but have nightmares about Battier flopping. I think we had like 3 or 4 guys foul out. Listen if you are going to take a legit charge take it. Those Duke guys started falling back before contact. So they got call w/o taking any of the punishment of the hit. Made them change the rule once Battier got into NBA.

Bootsy had 40pnts that game, will Ponds get 40pnts Saturday? The only way SJU stays in it.

The 1999 game was one of the greatest games I've ever been at even though it was a loss
I can still see where I was sitting my father

We should be happy with a good showing by our undermanned team. It's not about wins or losses from now on this season. The kids have played hard every game. As much as I criticize Mullin, he has not given up and has taken the losses hard. I will continue to cheer him and the team on to next year's deeper and more talented team. We saw what this team could have been before the injuries. No more need for bashing the team or coaches from here on out. Yes, this was 72 posting!

New meds or account hacked? ?

Lol!
New month!
Seriously though we have rehashed the shortcomings to death. I really feel for these kids. The fire Mullin posts are also silly. At first my anger and disappointments was expressed in sarcastic posts but a grown old man can bash kids just so much. They are not paid athletes. It is pretty hard to hold things together under these circumstances so as long as they play hard I'm good.

I suspect the original Class of 72 to return before the end of the season.

NCAA championship game is 2 months from today. Here are the future odds to win it.
Villanova 6-1
Duke 13-2
Michigan State 13-2
Purdue 8-1
Arizona 10-1

Other BE teams which were given a line;
Xavier 25-1
Seton Hall 50-1
Creighton 100-1
Providence 125-1
Butler 250-1
Georgetown 500-1

I agree, in regard to it being one of the greatest games for us in a loss. I still have the game on VHS stored in a crate, although I wasn't able to tape the entire game. I'll touch on that shortly.

I watched the game with two of my best friends (one is a UNC fan and the other is a Hoya fan). They both (of course, my friend who roots UNC was pulling for us, no doubt) were pulling for the Johnnies. The reason why I wasn't able to record the entire game was due to local affiliate had to tune into the game of the local team once their game started.

Once, the Johnnies game went into OT; it was also the start of the South Carolina/Syracuse game (also televised on CBS that day). I'll never forget the local affiliate going to a commercial before the start of OT, and when they came back from the commercials, it was at the start of tip-off for the Gamecocks/'Cuse game.

I remember being pissed and wondering what the heck was going on, and then I realized what actually was happening. Then, I immediately ran upstairs to log onto my computer, so I could listen to the rest of our game on radio. It was a tough listen because we were up in OT when I was finally able to log on, but eventually relinquished our lead. I felt it was a game of attrition by that time, and they eventually made the plays down the stretch.

I felt we were one of the top 4 teams in the country that season, but picked a bad night to have a bad night versus Ohio State.

Here is our 1999 game versus Duke:

That is a really tall order.HERE AGAIN we need to up our % at the 3pt line We have had open shots all season long but unable to shoot So to do it now against D is asking the players to do something that looks like they are incapable of doing but there is always the i games that every goes right Just being close will be a victory. But if we lose by 30 would not be surprise and think we should not come down hard on then team at this point in the season

Just trying to logic out the rest of the season MJ. When I discount Alibegovic, an injured Yakwe and the freshman Trimble, we are basically a 5 man team. If just one or two of them has a bad game, as was the case against Xavier, there is little chance of winning. Not sure how much any coach can do with that situation. Just as in season one we have one Big East level starter. Recruiting has to take a radical turn for the better. Mullin needs a couple of impact players in the next two classes or we have to get used to being in the bottom 5 of the conference.

Respectfully don't agree. Ponds is a Big East level star. Owens would be a pretty solid big forward or even small forward on a team with a big front line (imagine him on the Syracuse 2-3 zone. Simon could run the point on a pretty good team (like the shallow one before Lovett went down). I think Clark would be a nice small forward on a good team, or a valuable sub. Ahmed would not start or play much on a good team. He's a better version of Durand Johnson, who will get you points, but not efficiency.

Agree with the rest. IF we go nine deep next season it shoudl be a really good team./

Beast, so you actually agree about Ponds!;) After him and Lovett, everyone else of the starters would be 6th or 7th man on a stronger upper tier Big East team. I would make an exception for Justin if his scoring was more consistent. That we are 0 for yada yada pretty much tells me why the other guys are not dependable Big East starters. They start because they are the best of what we got.

Wish me luck tomorrow. I’ll be seated in the Duke rooting section behind their bench with my Duke alumni sister. She has already started chirping about the expected outcome. Yet I will be there, wearing my circa 1985 SJU sweatshirt. If they keep it under 20, I can at least stomach the ribbing that I will get. If this is a 30 plus point blowout....it may get ugly!

Asked Shamorie Ponds if all the losing has made him rethink staying home: “Not at all. I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy road. It’s about getting through it.” #sjubb

Thanks for the stupid question Zach!
