Most talented team in ..... ?

Trimble has a spot on team but I don't think Teimble will be close to out best 3 pt shooter.

Clark is legit 40%+.

Trimble shot 32% (26 of 81) and usually wide open, set shot. Dixon in his frosh year at Quinn, was 37% (60 of 162)

I expect Ponds to be closer to freshman year % of 37.5% vs the 25% this season.

RSNC, agree he may not be our leading 3 pt shooter percentage wise. But he showed an ability to hit the open three as a freshman and expect his percentage as with other aspects of his game will improve with a year's experience behind him. He doesn't turn the ball over and will be helpful covering bigger guards, particularly if he comes into the year in better shape than last year.

My point is he is exactly the solid 4 year, incrementally improving player we want to keep. If we want to move away over time from being so dependent on the transfer market, Trimble is a good example of the type of player we need to retain over 4 years rather than speculating as to whether he will transfer. There will be plenty of playing time for him, especially in his junior and senior years if he keeps improving, which I expect he will.

I can't see Trimble getting many minutes this year with the roster stocked with wings and guards and there will be at least two more transfers ready to play next year.
More importantly I hope SJU is taking a step up this season and will start to attract some top recruits who can contribute immediately. I cannot fathom Trimble staying in the current transfer environment.

In the "good old days", Trimble would be a useful four year player who develops over time and contributes more and more each year.

But, in "today's world", most kids want to play right away and aren't willing to pay their dues, so to speak. Ergo, the rash of transfers nationwide, the numbers of which seems to grow after each season.

People tend to blame CM and his staff for the number of transfers we have had in the past couple of years. I think it's just indicative of the times we live in. Immediate gratification or bust.
There is playing time for Trimble even if MH is eligible. Can we please stop encouraging this kid to leave? He can be a huge help this year and even more so in 2019-2020.
Agree 1000%. No need at all for these posts that suggest and indirectly fuel transfers. Trimble by all accounts is a good kid who contributed as a freshman. His biggest weakness was his weight which we have heard he is shedding this off - season. He can play the 2 or 3 and provides nice bench depth. He is exactly the 3* player that the Butlers of the world succeed with. Here is to a good 4 years at a SJU.

Have there been rumblings of Trimble transferring?

Please NO MORE transfers!!! Nova has been very successful having players redshirt. We've had our share of successful redshirts too. If and when Heron becomes eligible , i would prefer Trimble redshirt. We will be deep enough at guard to afford to redshirt him. I don't want to lose ANYONE! Redshirting will only help him and team.

I don't think posters wondering about whether he transfers is equivalent to encouraging him to do so. I think it's realistic to speculate, given the previous posts mentioning the current transfer-happy climate and possible lack of minutes.

You can never have enough good guards but having Keita as our only Big is a big Achilles heel. An athletic big would transform this team into a complete team from positions 1 through 5. Getting one has to be a top priority.

Sometimes the nonsense here is nonstop.

If any of you recall, when some posters were making the obvious negative comments about Trimble's physique, i was the first to point out that the coaching staff is very high on him because of his athleticism. Even carrying extra weight, they said his hops were pretty amazing. All of a sudden most posts here turned positive and remain.

With the commitment of one 30 minute player in Heron, what appeared to be daylight to Trimble to step up into 20 minutes per game or more may be gone, and in this case to another soph.

Its reasonable, that when you add a transfer who will eat minutes if immediately eligible that the guys who stand to lose minutes reassess their role.

Its foolish to stick your head in the sand, and in effect, say "shhhhhh. Don't even mention the t word". Every guard on the roster who isnt named Ponds or Simon will have to adjust their expectation for minutes. Someone will emerge as the bonafide top 4th guard and get important run, the 5th guard some run, and the others will have to wait.

To speculate whether Trimble would consider leaving is in ZERO way encouraging him to leave. In fact, if you think that every time the roster is upgraded that the possible odd men out don't assess their futures in the program, you are misguided.

I hope Trimble stays, improves his game and conditioning, and becomes an important rotation player. Satisfied?

What we we all do if we didn't have B of the E to set us straight on all things Redmen basketball? Preach brother!

Another brilliantly executed missive that artfully states your case.

and only 1 game would clearly be a reach (Duke)

why? the whole starting team went into the draft. No reach there unless you can't play

Are we already assuming Heron is going to be eligible? That is a big assumption especially with St. John"s track record

Think this time it’s beyond ‘St. John’s track record’ and more the NCAAs inconsistent hardship rule decisions of recent years—a sharp reversal of previous times when players got hardship waivers to be closer to the family dog.
Ironically, it may work out for us that this time the NCAA is about to change transfer rules in general, including waivers for student athletes with solid GPAs and waivers when a HC changes schools.
Also, it’s certainly up-in-the air, but a few pundits have opined Heron may get the waiver and there’s some speculation that Mustapha and family have done some ‘preparatory’ work about their particular circumstances.
But you’re right, who knows?
