Most talented team in ..... ?

usguard, as SS&G would say this is a nice problem to have. We've often had the opposite challenge - not enough good players to fill the minutes.

This roster the way it is currently comprised if Heron is eligible, reminds me of Villanova's 2009 Final Four team. Look at their roster and look at ours. They didn't have any height either. They had Dante Cunningham and that's it as far as a center goes. They were a guard and wing forward oriented team. I'm not saying that we are going to the Final Four, but this team mirrors that team in many ways.

I've spent too much time in Missouri, the show me state, I guess.

I'll be happy just if we hear our name on selection Sunday, and thrilled with 1 tourney win, and head over heels if we made it through the first weekend. The goal should be just to dance.

Think of this, though. If Lovett doesn't take a dive, the Heron come here? It sounds like a big upgrade, so this is why we have to just accept the negative things that happen, which sometimes are the fulcrum for a great opportunity to improve.

NC, I for one will be thrilled to see a full lay-up line before a game. Its been years since we had a full bench. I may be exaggerating a bit but there were games a team would come out with 12 or 13 players and SJU would warm up with like 8 or 9. Felt like a CYO game where our kids didn't show up on time for the game.

There are a lot of variables here. Will Heron be eligible? There are a LOT of new pieces, that on paper look very very good, but how that translates to the court is yet to be seen.

If everything falls into place, this is easily our best team since the Elite 8 squad.

All I know is I'm buckling up and getting ready to enjoy the ride.:)

One thing we know is that Simon and Ponds are already fit. They played almost every minute of every game after Lovett quit and almost always kept it close. If you add Heron into the mix I wouldn't want to play just those 3 if I was a mid major.

Heron is a program changer if eligible, he'll be a program changer, and in more ways then one.
I don't remember the importance of any players eligibility as importantas Heron's.

But we won't know until late October/ early November, it's how the ncaa rolls when it comes to sju.
So might as well enjoy the summer and the Yanks, no need to rush it.
The decision isn't in our hands, but you gotta think what could be if he is eligible. The skies the limit.

To LJF.
Kid has talent, but he's a JC transfer, no ncaa div I low conference. I'd prefer Dixon to start over LJF, atleast for the first month. If he wants in the starting lineup, then he'll have to out perform Dix

I think both Mikey and Figgy will log many minutes next season and may well be on the court--often-- together.
I'm not demeaning Dixon, but Figgy is a bonafide talent: a top 4* out of HS and 1st Team AA JUCO as a freshman.
I'm sure he'll have an adjustment period, as will Mikey, but I expect him to be a potent scoring option and a defensive stud.
And I expect Dixon to be very solid and steady in his game on both ends of the court.
All looks good and will be pristine if Mustapha is eligible.

Actually five guys - Ponds, Simon, Clark, Keita and Dixon all practiced together last season and know each other well on the floor. Heron and Figueroa are incredible additions. Those 7 players should be able to compete with any team in the country. The three true freshmen will be contributors but not needed to play major roles while learning the college game.
Being able to go 7 or 8 deep without losing momentum is what will make this team unique at St. John's. If Heron is eligible expect tickets to sell fast.

Yep
We have had no bench
We have had a bad bench
Now we seemingly have a deep & talented one
Don’t get me wrong, I was happy with no bench or the bad bench of the past three seasons ( yeah right)
Having Trimble, Williams, Dixon, Roberts, Earlington, whomever...
Priceless!

More coming, but talked to a Big East coach on what St. John's could be if Heron gets waiver: “If they all blend well, they defend and rebound, they have the firepower to be just as good as anyone in the league. Off the bat, they’re much better [than they were last year].” #sjubb
Could Trimble bolt if Heron's hardship app looks good?
Yeah Beast, total guess but I bet that may happen if Heron is eligible.

There is playing time for Trimble even if MH is eligible. Can we please stop encouraging this kid to leave? He can be a huge help this year and even more so in 2019-2020.

Yeah, NCJ, i think they'll be PT for Trimble if Ponds/Heron/Figgy average mid-20 mins/game range, but IF GW also gets some minutes, I doubt Trimble will approach the 17 mins/g of last season-- particularly if Dixon gets 20 mins/g.
I hope he stays as well, but he might blanche at the diminishing law of numbers.
Just sayin'.

Beat me to it. Tired of some posters encouraging Trimbe to leave. Then we complain about roster turnover. The kid was a Freshman last season and showed a nice touch from deep. If he's our best three point shooter, there will be playing time for him. He should be the second guard in off the bench after Dixon.
