Ok assuming Heron plays next season and after reading that post article reading all the medical problems his mom has had I'm getting a real good feeling he gets the waiver now I think it's definitely fair to ask when was the last time we had as much talent next year on the court

Heron and Simon were both 5 stars ? Ponds,Fig,Keita,Williams 4 stars ?

Any opinions

Oh and if we somehow get Rice as an assistant I'm going to lose it I will be so happy

Most talented team in close to 20 years. No excuses now. Let's do this.

I know many of you have followed longer...for me it's since 2011 and we all love and miss D'Lo...but on his teams he was the only great guard. Greene was solid and Jordan had some moments but had issues. Since at least 2011 this has to be by far the best group of guards. Who can cover Simon, Heron, and Ponds? If it happens it will be a nightmare for teams gameplanning against us. With Heron and hopefully Rice this season, I don't expect to see any close calls with the mid majors either.

This season is shaping up to be the perfect storm (no pun intended). Big East will be weakest we've seen since realignment, OOC schedule is very manageable and only 1 game would clearly be a reach (Duke), best backcourt in decades most likely, and Rice added would be the cherry on top. Then if you make the tourney and hopefully a top 25 appearance, you leverage that to get the 4 star HS recruits again and extend Mullin. Fingers crossed.

On paper this team is way more talented than our last two squads that made the tournament (2011, 2015).

And many forget the 2015 team was ranked as high as 15th for a short time after beating Cuse and taking care of business against cupcakes early. This team should be better.

with a deep team not huge on height but huge on athleticism and stamina would love to see 40 minutes of hell type play and run other teams big men into the ground

If Mustapha is eligible, I think you have to back to the Jarvis elite eight team.

Christmas in April(Figgy)!
Christmas in May (Mustapha)!
Christmas in July (Mike Rice)?!?
A trifecta...maybe?!?

I think Artest and Barkley were likely 5 stars, but probably more importantly both of them and Postell were good enough to be drafted and play in NBA and Bootsy was also a super talent.

Yes Mike, think so.
IF Heron plays, few teams are going to be able to play 40 minutes of run / gun, shooting-the-lights-out (on most nights!), alley-oop, driving / penetrating insanity and then withstand intense in-your-face D.
We don’t have ‘big’ depth, but we have plenty of guard / wing depth: Dixon, Trimble, Williams to relieve and pace our main guys over 40 minutes.
Man. 2018-19 might be a season for the Ages, witnessing a Rising Storm.
Can’t wait.
Let’s go Johnnies.

Lavin's 14-15 team. That team should have been lock NCAA and perhaps won some games. Jordan, Harrison, Green, Dom, Obekpa, Sampson, Branch, Sanchez, Gift. That team had everything except a coach that could maximize the talent.

2011 can't really be compared because you had a crew of physical, versatile, tough seniors that was led by a guard who got crazy hot during the BE season and played as well for a stretch as almost any guard in the country.

15-16 had some excellent seniors and Dom figured it out to become a force in a small ball lineup, but they had absolutely no depth and I think the 14/15 squad was def better. Having a PG that had major off the court issues and a C that was a selfish a-hole who refused to enter a must win BE tourney game the year prior and decided to get busted for weed killing a couple of great kids chance to win a tourney game didn't help.

The way they did at Arkansas under Nolan.

And for all the griping about height, this team has just as much height as the 1999-2000 team.

Off topic, but did we ever have a worse class than 1999? Orvis, Wolfinger and Keita. Woof

Very similar to teams from 1998 -2000. I think the front line was Postell, Artest and Grant. Then when Artest left, Postel, Glover and Jessie. All 6’5 to 6’7. Not much depth. If only they could have landed Elton Brand from that AAU team as well.

Postell was so athletic and Artest and Grant were both strong as hell. They were special because those attributes made up for the lack of height. It is yet to be seen with this team. Rebounding and defense will need to be a true team effort. I went to sleep last night trying to figure out the starting 5. Something like Ponds, Simon, MH, Clark and LJ. I just wonder if Keita rotates with LJ. I need to relax as we still have a long hot summer before October. We still need waivers and need to see who actually shows up and is eligible and ready to go.
