Most "important" craft beers

Anchor Steam has a great tasting room, but you must make a reservation to go on a tour beforehand. The brewery is located in an industrial section of SF.

Sierra Nevada has an interesting, informative brewery tour with a decent tasting area at the end. It's located in Chico, with little else to do in the area.

Thanks Mike. Very proud of it. It came out great. I brewed it in alongside my buddy who is the main brewer there. More reason to come up and try lobster rolls and great IPA's.

I cant imagine a better combo than beer and lobster rolls. How long is the drive from L.I ?

4 hours without traffic. Not bad at all. Blue Dragon Double IPA has been well received thus far. Working on new beers...;-)

I just do this stuff for fun, but working on some more IPA's. Learning a lot. Brewing is fun. I'd like to do a Russian Imperial stout as well. Those styles are my wheelhouse.

Never tried a Russian Imperial Stout but now it is on my list for when I get off my current medication! Been beerless for a week and my wife has been polishing off my recent Saison acquisition. :(

Maybe because it is summer but I've been enjoying the Farmhouse Ales.

If you want a good example of Russian Imperial stout, grab something like an Alesmith Speedway Stout a Ten Fiddy or one of the Yeti imperials.. Three nice examples that a good beer shop should have.

I've never even heard of russian imperial stout until this thread. Marcus where can I get that near huntington ?

Russian Imperial Stouts are the strongest, darkest and most flavorful of the stout family. Only black and heavy coffee, chocolate and roast flavors. Nothing like a Guinness stout which is like a corona light in comparison. Very rich in style. Btw don't drink em cold. Drink at cool basement temperature.

Syosset beverage has a very good selection. Shoreline beverage as well but I like syosset better. A great beer bar in Huntington is called Sapsuckers. Great place with great selection of beers.

I went out looking for a Russian Imperial Stout and came up with "Old Rasputin" by North Coast Brewing. I love it. It's like a strong coffee with a little, crisp bite in it. Now when I'm having those coffee urges at night, I've got the perfect solution.

Tonight, Ballast Point Dead Ringer (Oktoberfest). This is a really dark amber color almost no head on it (unlike the pic for me at least) and overall very subtle almost underwhelming. I could see why this is a festival beer because you could really drink a lot of it but for drinking at home alone and spending a few extra shekels for the Ballast Point name I'd rather get a couple of something else.
