This young man will have to sit out again which makes no sense but I guess he wants to be a chief and not a ... College basketball roster makeup is so unpredictable from year to year that it is almost impossible to forecast . Ian Steere was here in a blink of an eye and now Dixon left just like that.. Hoping that Mack is the real deal at PG and Greg Williams stays and continues to improve because Eli wright has been better than advertised in practices. We will be real athletic at the guard spot but really could have used Mikey Dixon's shooting skills as well

See in the day and age of kids wanting instant gratification, it makes having multiple sit out transfers make even more sense. Transfers like this prove that point. Kids are not willing to sit at the end of the bench and earn minutes and develop. It's nearly impossible to keep 13 players happy because there aren't enough minutes to go around.
I'm fine losing 1-2 players a year if they are guys that are leaving because they lost battles for playing time. That seems to be the norm now anyway--40% of kids transfer by their soph year. 20% of those kids transfer again!
I don't fault Dixon one bit. He was too good for the MAAC, but not good enough to be a starter in the Big East. The writing was on the wall with Williams rising fast, Mack signed on for next year, and Eli Wright busting his arse in practice.
This kid has a professional career ahead of him somewhere and he has every right to bolster that resume while he can.
I'm much more bothered by transfers from kids who have big roles and are depended on--like Owens. I think that shows naivety to buy a coach's sales pitch and a lack of character in abandoning his teammates, coaches, and school.
Tariq Owens had 4 points, 4 boards, 5 fouls in 12 minutes of play against 8-5 West Virginia the other night. They are 12-1 and we are 13-1. I have yet to see the value in his 5th year transfer over staying at SJU where he was guaranteed serious minutes this season.
Whose minutes was he going to take? Keita's when he is healthy? Lj's? Herons? He would average 20 minutes at best while averaging 5, 3 and 2. The move to Tech has worked out for him. The one thing TO was guaranteed of on this team was a severely diminished role from a squad that lost its first 11 conference games. I'm growing tired of this board beating the same dead horse.
Hé wasn’t taking anyone’s minutes , he had earned his own minutes over the course of his play the last 2 seasons. He was guaranteed his minutes on a greatly Improved team. And if I recall correctly when he announced he was leaving there was no Figueroa or Heron.
In any event nothing rude or insulting has been said in this thread about Owens or his dad but if you find it so cumbersome I suggest you skip the posts in question that are comparing Tariq’s transfer to MDs.
Also, aside from his being a good teammate, we have no idea of how Keita is going to work out for us -- it's not like he was a star, let alone a starter or even key player off the bench, at South Carolina. Hoping it's not the case, but maybe he'll turn out to be a foul machine, so why assume Tariq's minutes would automatically be "takeable"?
