When was the last time, if ever, our athletic department turned a profit? Our NCAA/Big East Tournament units are way down and have been for years.

At least Pitino pulled the team from Anderson's $500 per room night stays at the Marriott Essex House where the team breakfasts were well over $100 each and pregame meals were north of $150 and reappropriated those funds to better use. His choice of hotels were cut 50% in Manhattan.
Wait till they get the bills from the Bahamas Tournament this fall.

WOW, didn’t know that. Guess Coach Anderson liked living the high life. 😂👍

They actually started going there in Mullins tenure. Another smart move by Pitino was keeping the players in the dorms the night before Carnesecca games instead of paying for local hotel for 25-30 people. Plus the cost of meals at that local hotel and transportation to and from the hotel.

^ This is the type of thing that Rick should be doing/our new AD helps catalyze for all of our sports. Didn't Pitino host a TV show or had a weekly segment while he was Providence's head coach?

Heaven forbid the basketball program promotes itself in the 21st century. So many other programs already have tons of media availability, player interviews, etc etc

And St. John's continues to be in the stone age with this.

Maybe with a change in the athletic departments leadership, that will change.

At first I thought you were disagreeing with me. You of all people should know the power of podcasts! lol

For example, the redstorm's basketball sites still have last year's rosters.

Disagreeing with you? My tongue is BLEEDING with how much I am biting it on this topic every day for the last few years.

The room for improvement in this area with this program is the size of 10 grand canyons.

Yeah I figured, lol. They should hire you (or someone like you) to head a new media team focused on an actually interesting Youtube channel, podcasts/video headed by each coach on teams, etc. It'd also help players with their NIL. You'd have to imagine there's some grad assistants applicants who can even do this. It wouldn't even cost that much money.

Cragg had his successes and failures across all the programs. Cragg was responsible for the hiring, extension and firing of Anderson (and took the fall for it). He did some nice things not as visible and worked on getting more alumni support. In the end Cragg was a nice guy and I am sure he tried his best.

As basketball seems to be trending the right way, other sports are not and at least one (Men’s Lacrosse) has never been on the right track. While I know things have changed in terms of popularity and revenue in collegiate baseball with the SEC, ACC and other conferences, our baseball program was a standard bearer for the Northeast but until this year, hadn’t made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2018. While basketball is our bread and butter and “The Program”, the other programs matter also. That all falls under his watch.

St. John’s needs a forward thinking, aggressive, progressive AD who can garner alumni support, be a successful fundraiser, be able to navigate the changing structure of college athletics, understand and make use of all available media and technology, have ideas better enhance facilities and a strategy to implement them, provide support for all programs and make use of our strengths. IMHO, there is no one in house who is the right fit.

I am hopping they actually do a legitimate national search and can think of two locals who do have several of those qualities and experience albeit on a smaller scale who should at least be considered. Like the last basketball head coach search, at this time of the ever changing landscape of college athletics, it is imperative they get this right because if they don’t ….
