My biggest disappointment during Mike’s tenure was the willingness to lay down and succumb towards shifting away from MSG. There was a peak of Garden games during his first, Mullin’s last season (2019) and then things gradually worsened throughout the IMA era. The decision to play at UBS last season was a disaster. I happen to like him, he is a true professional and great representative of the program:
restoring the audio in Queens
New LED screens in Queens
redoing the banners in Queens and MSG
The Nike deal
The Lou statue
bringing in alchohol sales to Queens along with gradual upgrades around Carnesecca lobbies (sans bathrooms)
Johnnies Day
Honoring former players nightly in MSG (major hat tip here)
Throwback jerseys, throwback decals in MSG
Peter Millar, Homefield merch
He’s certainly puts in the effort, truly cares and is always up for a conversation, unlike Monasch.
I’m sure there are plenty of other accomplishments that I’m missing and that’s just strictly basketball focused. Most importantly sealing the deal on the athletic facilities building will be his legacy. That complex is going to be a monumental pivoting point that will benefit all. I wish the man and his family nothing but the best regardless if he’s here or not.
