I believe that he is the first St John's coach to receive a contract extension since Looie.
Under Father Shanley's direction, our administration finally gets it. We now have a great team of an excellent AD and a fine Head Coach locked up for several years. The men's basketball program is primed for future success at St John's. Thank goodness!!
After I posted, I realized that Brian got an extension after his first year, when he was named Big East Coach of the Year . Unfortunately, things didn't go so well for him after that season.
I should have remembered about this because Brian and I took several classes together at St John's while I was pursuing my Master's degree. Mea culpa!!
And lots of very good players.Mean Gene post=434003 said:Great news! More than anything else in order to be a successful program we needed stability.

if things “go bad” it would mean Mike Anderson had his first losing season ever and I think he’d be more pissed about it than anybody. The guy is a winner and a class act. I think we are in pretty good shape.
I think when dealing with Anderson it's more a case of things "not going great enough" as opposed to "things going bad." He has a high floor, and since we're not a football school, I don't ever envision a scenario where his lower-than-high ceiling results in donors successfully calling for his head.MCNPA post=434009 said:Beast of the East post=434008 said:Hopefully the school learned its lesson and have reasonable buyouts along the way so if things go bad he only gets a small Slice of the remainder and not a big Slice

Norm. But, after the initial five years, it became much cheaper to buy him out.gman post=434016 said:Didn’t one of out recent coaches have a rolling contract? Maybe Lavin?
really great news to see the stability and support for CMA.
I think the rap he gets for having a high floor/low ceiling needs to be framed properly...if you’re not cheating in the SEC, you have a hand tied behind your back. . . And, he still had one of the better records.L J S A post=434010 said:I think when dealing with Anderson it's more a case of things "not going great enough" as opposed to "things going bad." Just to be clear, I didn't even know he got a rap for high floor/low ceiling.Section3 post=434033 said:I think the rap he gets for having a high floor/low ceiling needs to be framed properly...if you’re not cheating in the SEC, you have a hand tied behind your back. . . Once he gets going here he will be able to recruit well against most of the BE
