Midnight Madness

Real good turnout for this type of event...

MCNPA,
The event was free!! Both sides of CA should have been packed. They alienate alumni and season ticket holders with their ticket process. All they had to do was to have tickets available to alumni and season ticket holders the weekend before for pick up so they could gauge attendance by the Friday student freebees.

They only opened up one side.

i saw. Still decent turnout. We're never going to get a UK-style turnout. Crowd seemed into it and loud though.

I live in Syracuse, the ESPN3 feed was horrible. I would say second class transmittion. At 9PM MidNIght Madness on ESPNU came on and it is a first rate production. They are covering 11 sites. STJ is not one of them......I think we got snockered by ESPN.

It is scary to think that while Syracuse, Louisville and others are having full scrimmages SJ cannot field two teams. Although very noble to integrate the men and women in this event most do not come to watch the gals shoot hoops with the guys.

The depth issue was glaring watching these young guys. Hopefully they can add 3 or 4 walk-ons to make practices competitive or these kids are not going to be game-ready by the time they face a Kentucky or Detroit.

I totally agree. When you can't go all out in practice you are going to hurt in games. We need people. Watching what what I saw tonight it is obvious.

Guys, come on its the first day. give these kids a break. the season hasnt even begun and already the negitivity. if all goes well we will have Pelle and garrett back in dec. Relax, enjoy the upcoming season. good things are ahead!!

There were around 300 fans behind the stage so it was open.

I have seen better feeds from an Iphone! ESPN should be embarrassed!

Forget walkons... We need Amir and Norvel in December!!

I was there, sitting across the aisle from Pelle and Garrett and various other recruits. They had to open up the other side across from the benches since it was filled to the roof on my side. Harkless (who has a super quick leap) read a statement from Lavin thanking everyone.

That is true! But we need enough players for competitive practices or they will not be game-ready for the November and December non-league games. Since nothing is 100% re. the return of the two you mention getting at least 5 or 6 walk-ons is as important as getting Amir here in December.

Honestly I came away from this thing way more optimistic than I was previously. Obviously only having 8 guys isn't ideal, but as long as Garrett and Pelle are back in December I feel great about this team. None of them looked like freshmen out there, they're all much stronger than I thought and the team as a whole is extremely long and athletic. I don't think our lack of depth at the center position will hurt us as much as we think, I completely trust this coaching staff to figure it out and make it work. Even if/when we do struggle though this team is gonna be so fun to watch. I'm not necessarily expecting it, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if these guys grow up fast and we catch fire the 2nd half of the year like last year, finish top 9 in the conference and make the tournament. With our OOC schedule and big east schedule, by the time February roles around it's like these guys will already be sophomores. I'm so excited for this season to start and even more excited for the future of this program.

Top NINE?
I love your optimism!!
Without Pelle and Amir look for bottom 3. No bench=unexpected losses.

Both will be back for Big East play.

Hearing something Della?. Either way, I'll take it. Garrett is guaranteeing he'll be here in December and I have to believe a kid with his determination. Pelle from what it seems is getting the grades, so I'm guessing as long as he holds serve and his SAT score is decent enough, there's a good chance we see him too. Would be a game changer if we get both of them for league play. Adding one of the best centers I. The country and a too 50 Wing would be fantastic.

Like I said, I'm not saying I expect them to finish top 9, just that I certainly wouldn't be surprised anymore if they did. Did anyone think we'd finish 3rd last year? Talent and this coaching staff = unexpected wins

Not trying to get hopes up but if they are eligible for the second semester, the will be back by Dec. 19, giving them eight days of practice before Big East play begins. It's not like they'd be back for the final five games of the seasob or something.

We started 5 seniors last year and we will start five new players (and new to each other !) this year........Yes, to a man, they are more talented than last year's seniors but the lack of experience playing together will make every game an adventure. My only concern right now is depth. Asking a freshman to play 35-40 minutes is almost absurd. Freshmen need to sit and listen to coach in many game situations in order to learn and that will be near impossible with 7 players. I am praying for a walk-on surprise and the return of Norvel and Amir.

Hey, it could have been much much worse! Had SJ kept Norm SJ would be full of 9 new players who likely would have been 2 of 3 star players, if rated at all, and most likely SJ would be picked 16th in the BE!!
