Midnight Madness - 2015

The reason they are charging is because the act refused to perform unless they were charging. They actually had a previous act who refused to perform as well because he wanted tickets sold. This act was fine with students getting in for free and compromised on the non students having to pay.

As for the event itself I didn't go last year and not sure about the year before. For whoever said sell out last year don't they cut off half the building? I remember that when I last went. It is a student driven event but we know our students arent exactly breaking turnstiles when it comes to SJU hoops. If you can get some recent alums still young enough to appreciate the act dinging them for 20 bucks is pretty dumb because they will fill the holes and make it look more packed. You want a good crowd because you dont need recruits to see a half ass full arena.

Out of curiosity moose, who was the first performer lined up?

Fortunately or unfortunately, the reason Bobby G. is investing so much in basketball is that he sees it as a revenue producing sport that must carry its own load in terms of profitability and maybe even carry all the expenses of the athletic department.

In a year where the team is picked to finish at the bottom of the Big East, season tickets went up another 8%. Last season they went up 8% over the previous year. Right now a family grossing 100K per year would have to fork over $1400 for two decent season tix, more than one week's net salary. Probably squeezing out middle class families.

An event like this shouldn't be about music, or revenue, or anything but generating a lot of interest for the season. Inviting in performing artists to draw students who don't give a care about basketball won't work and hasn't worked. Looking at the students who do attend all games, and sit behind the CA baskets, they are almost all guys, and almost all white. Really strange on a very diverse campus, but I am sure there are lots of reasons for that.

If you ask me, Midnight madness is all about basketball and amping up students. HAving a mini concert attached to it hasn't worked, so why continue that.

Beast, there's one problem with this. Two tickets in section 114 cost me a lot less than $1,400 and my seats are better than decent. Considering the gathering of redmen com and non redmen com people I'd say they are the best seats in the house. It's kind of like sitting and watching a game with John Wooden in his prime. But you are right about the seats in CA. They kind of suck. Actually, all almost all the seats in that place are lousy

I swtiched to the 700 dollar seats this year. My seats were good before in the corner at MSG but it was hard to see the other end of the floor and I was sick of the Carnesecca rafters.

Beast, if he sat next to you he would probably wind up hating basketball! :)

No way. I survived 2003 to 2008 I'm a better man for living through it. Besides, I already sit next to Joe J on most nights. Beast knows he can't top Joe.

Joe J. has a fantastic knowledge of basketball. It's the wardrobe that needs help :)
