Mid Season Report Card

Mullin haters - F

He will be Big East Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year is within reach with a strong finish.
Where did those guys go?
I'm still here but I've moved from dubious to skeptical. This team 1-5 is the best team STJ has put on the floor in 20 years, despite the lack of big guys, especially since the last team was kind of devoid of big guys as well. They should win against bad teams, they should win at home. They should compete on the road. But the fact that they ARE doing all those things when so many previous iterations didn't is impressive.

Won't move me from skeptical to apologetic until I see what they do with next years team. ;)

PS Hater is a ridiculous term, leave that kind of silly talk to the fluffer crowd.

So many A + and A grades. Some of you guys should have been my college professors. I grade tougher, leaving room for improvement.

Here is the thing, I wouldn't expect you to be upset the team is doing well. There are some who were posting that are though.

Posters calling out fans who were hard on Mullin better be careful. I'm not sure it's done in jest or y'all are being serious. I don't know how long some of y'all have watched or been around sports, but things can turn (even quickly) for better or worse. Hell! I can use JT3 as a prime example or John Brady (who once guided LSU to a Final Four).

People we haven't arrived yet. We're barely into the conference season of a year where it looks like we could earn our first tournament bid in four seasons, whilst some of y'all use it to call out posters who were apprehensive. The obvious trolls are gonna duck and hide (they never mattered anyhow). But the fans who are geniune won't do so, regardless what they've said about the team.

Let's enjoy this season, and hope this season is the one that propels us long-term (keyword: long-term).

I think Ponds has reclaimed POY from Howard so far ... and , I think Shamorie ought to be a viable choice for Wooden Award if the team continues to Win .. a lot of Media types fell in love with Howard’s outstanding scoring in the early Season games but, Slick has elevated his game to another level ... Howard can be defended as witness our effort last week . I haven’t seen anybody really shut Ponds down . True, his shot is off , rarely and he drifted into that pass first game for a while but, he’s back on Track . Who’s better ?

Ponds has also shown he can play the point. He rebounds very well and has plenty of steals. A special player.

What are you skeptical of? What does Mullin have to do to get your support this year? That just seems incredibly unfair.

And fluffier is a valid label but hater isn't? Care to elaborate?

Ponds is a born PG. People get confused when a kid can also score.
Think it was Beast who a while back was touting St. Jeans's coaching ability, anyway spoke to an NBA scout today who stated he is a highly thought of AC whose name is out there for head coaching positions. In his opinion when Mullin gets his extension they should pay St. Jean to keep him and promise him the job as coach in waiting. He is very impressed by St. Jean in running the drills, player development, defensive improvements. Just passing along what I was told.
I see it

I'm impressed with the apparent improvement of the coaching staff, especially CM.

I wasn't sure what a "fluffer" was so looked it up. Also looked up "fluffier" Learn something every day (that I didn't want to learn)

I disagree.

Certain posters were crazy negative against the coaches and program - and clearly had an agenda to create chaos on this website (and the other one). That agenda ruins this website for others who try and enjoy the website, and rooting for the program.

Those negative, agenda driven posters should be called out on it, and should be continue be called out on it. I hope they stay away.

Good riddance.
Hey, the team and staff have my emotional support at all times. Doesn't mean I always expect them to be good. I'm still skeptical that they will field a lineup with this level of talent regularly, and if they will be able to make their system work when there aren't 5 special players in the starting lineup. Still hope I'm wrong. I do feel they have more to do with this groups success than say Jarvis did with the Riverside crew.

Hater implies personal animus and I don't honestly believe that very many have that.

Fluffer is said in fun, especially since fluffers don't really have unconditional love for the one they fluff, they do it for the money.

What do you disagree with? I stated the trolls or folks with clearly an agenda never mattered anyhow. They're not gonna come aboard when things are going fine. They'll only show up when they see an opportunity to pounce when things aren't going so well. The hell with those types, as they never mattered.

The folks who call things how they see it and discuss things constructively (even if it's at time repetitive) doesn't mean they are trolls and want the program to fail. There's a difference. You might be one of those posters who only wanna hear everything being gravy. I don't mind constructive posts one way or another. Posts being overly harsh and negative is just like posts being "lollipops" and "ice cream." There's generally a medium with most things in life.

I'm an optimistic dude, but I'm gonna call it as I see it. I think many of the folks who have "called things how they've seen it" so far with this regime are still on board and rooting like hell for the program. The trolls, not so much.

To the trolls.... Good riddance. To the folks who are or were apprehensive..... Many are still here.

You know I love you as a person, and I agree with your post, but already CM has dispelled what some said he couldn't do - bring a winner here.

There are a couple of posters who took great delight in pointing out Mullins career record as a coach as abysmal. Guess what? From year 2 on, we now have an overall record in the lavin range.

People called him stubborn and lazy, said he really didn't want this job and predicted he bc would walk away or get fired by season's end. It was such nonsense and still in the annals of this site.

Yea, things go sour quickly, but also when they say you have to build a program, you do just that, block by block. But its clear for now we are moving forward and that's just awesome. As I said when guys conceded preseason that we could make the dance but warned if a collapse next season, I'd say the same to you. Enjoy what's in front of you

Zaun is no longer demoted. Just not posting.
As for Mullin, Mrs. 72 picked him for Big East Coach of the Year weeks ago so everyone here is late to the table.B)
FWIW, I think any coaching grades should be reserved for the end of the season. Fans grade players game to game because the coaches are not on the court.
The way things are going thus far Slick is the BE player of the year.
Yes after calling for Earlington to come in in a close game and guard Govan, I think a self imposed time away to try to get some perspective is definitely in order.
That entire post was in jest! Perhaps I should have said Camus and then it would have been obvious for the few that read everything literally.

I'm not on either side of that debate, but they have been noticably absent in the past couple weeks. They'll be sure to pop back in after the next bad loss.
Beware of what you wish for because I usually find the fans that call out other fans usually disappear when we lose 2 in a row. I think you should check the leader board to see which fans post here consistently.;)

Put me in the skeptical but extremely happy right now category. I was the most critical of Mullin on this board the first season for a reason we all know for sitting somewhere where he had know business sitting and for not coaching. It’s undeniable just look at the video. That being said I was much mellower after that and while I wasn’t happy about certain things I didn’t make a big deal of it. I call it as I personally feel or at least try to. I really want nothing more than Mullin to succeed. It’s our last hope. Recruiting might not be what I want and I don’t take back one word in wanting 2 recruiters. But success is success. If we win this way I’m cool with it and I’ll have to adjust what I think. I might not like how we play sometimes when we stand around or don’t even try to rebound offensively but if we are shooting Mullin ball lights out who am I to argue. I’m not fond of the Larry Bird model of coaching but if Mullins version works than we all win. Bottom line is I just want to win and have no problem supporting anyone who is winning
