Suggest not surrendering 90 + points again. :)

Again, have not yet watched the game but from the box score the 3 stats that jump out at me are the assist/turnover ratio, terrible; the 27 shots by LoVett, on the surface, too many and the rebounding advantage we had, which was surprising and significant. Mullin wants to play fast and was the 90 we gave up the product of consistently poor D or a combo of that and tempo?

MS 70 SJU 55

I would be satisfied if it was that close
Progress would be to win the games we should and not get blown out in the losses
Our formula - a step in the right direction this year and a giant leap next season

Good observations & latter I suspect

Agree. Combo.

We need to start taking some charges as well. Can't allow these unimpeded drves to the basket.

1 & 2 in Bahamas my guess fwiw, but 2-1 certainly possible. Do that & build confidence & little momentum. All about next year & getting better. I enjoy this team

if we went 2-1 I'd be ecstatic because I had us pegged at 1-2 before the season started so that would be making up for the loss last night which I had as W and get us back on the mjmaherjr 15 win path

Put them on their asses if needed, that's what I loved about Oakley, you're thinking you're gonna get get 2 easy points? Nope, you're gonna hit the floor.
I like the fear factor.

I had them with a L last night.
I have them beating MSU and losing to Baylor then winning the last game.

If we keep MSU to no more then 72, then I'll say we'll have a good chance at winning this.
And you'd like to think after last night, that they'll be working on transition defense.

Kansas and Indiana played 89-89 in regulation the other night and nobody was complaining.

You know we run and gun and thats ok provided others hit there shots Like Mussini and or Fruenberg and Eliision because you would think the lopsided fast breaks should not have happen since we out rebounded them Also would have thought someone would have been assigned to stay on COFFEY in the 2nd half Aso when will we see some zone but small guards may be prevent it

Keep me out of this. :) Defense will be the key. Mullin needs to pay close attention and take lots of notes. It will be both a lesson and a loss.

Honestly, if things don't break right for us in the non-SJU games of this tournament, 0-3 is not that much of an impossibility.

If we get tougher then expected matchups, and that happens, it also would not be the end of the world (although I probably will react like it is).

you are right and I wouldn't be surprised with 0-3 either which is why even though I didnt say it here I thought last nights game was real important

Minnesota is ranked #66 on Kenpom (system also uses projections and prior year results to determine ranking). They have some super freshmen like we do and we're a better team than us last year.

The loss hurt no doubt, since I thought we could've won, but wasn't a game we were supposed to win. Had we won it would've been a surprising upset and half the board would be anticipating the NCAAs.

A game we need next year, but not this year. They're essentially a bubble team according to Kenpom and we were on the road.

That said I agree we risk going 0-3. Having a 4 game losing streak early in the season for a young team is rough. I'd be happy with 1-2. 2-1 and I'd be thrilled.

Couldn't disagree more. There aren't many situations under which we have a "good chance of winning this". Not sure how anyone who has watched both teams play could pick SJU for a W.

And we gave up 90 to Minnesota. We could add Moutombo and Gary Payton and Mich St. would still get 75+.

True, we can't be giving up 90+ points, but Mich St. 2 big men are injured.
Bridges is avg 10boards pergame, Goins 7.7, and Ward 6.0 and that''s it so I believe we could win the rebounding games, thought we played a decent half court defense.

If (notice, I said IF) they work their asses off in practice with transition def and improve alot, maybe give up 10pnts there instead of 23 we could possibly win?
They aren't a big offensive threat on offense either. 63 vs. Az, and 48 vs. uk. Yeah I know those 2 are much b etter then us, but i'm just saying.

Bridges is 17pnt, Ward 11.7, Harris 9.3 and McQuaid 9.0
Then Goins at just 5.0.

So, I'm just saying that i think we have a real shot in this game
