Mets wanted sju to buy 5000 tickets

I worked in group sales for the Mets for three years, '97-'99, as well as interning for them after freshman year in the strike shortened 1994 season. First, the Mets have always been a welcoming employer to St. John's students and graduates (particularly our Sport Management program). They offered seminars with their marketing and PR execs, and treated employees well. That team in the Bronx, so far as friends and colleagues would attest to, did none of those things. I know this was years ago, but many of our own remain employed there. As far as this particular event, I'm sure the owners know none of these requests made, and that potentially one or more of our own grads tried to attach a sales benefit to this, which is precisely their job. Before you bash the Mets on this, consider that St. John's alum have and continue to start and enjoy their careers with the Mets, and while the other team may enjoy considerably more success on the field and in their bank account, they have provided less for us.

Your experience was pre-Madoff

The Mets are extremely generous to my son's little league.

Later in the show today a man called in that said his daughter won a contest to sing the National Anthem at Citifield prior to a game a few years back. She has song the anthem several times over the last few years, this year when they called to ask if she would like to do it again the Mets she had to sell 50 tickets to the game in order to sing the anthem. Crazy.

Ironically her Dad said she has also song the anthem at SJU and that they have been nothing but great to her.

I to knew a good number of people who worked for the Mets during their time at St. John's. A few with the Yankees also.

Didn't your son's team sweep them over the weekend?

Meanwhile, the Yankees would love one arm like Harvey, Syndergaard, DeGrom, or Wheeler. Enjoy it while you can.

Mets would love one arm like Miller's or Betrances coming out of the bullpen.

If I were a Met fan, I'd be leary about this second group of Generation K arms considering what happened to their original Generation K, Isringhausen, Wilson and Pulsipher. Let's just say it didn't work out for them as planned.

We have one. His name is Pineda. Other then Harvey, he's equally as good as any of those other guys. What we need is two or three more of them. Hopefully, Evoldi is one (he doesn't get enough swings and misses for my liking). What we need is two or three more of them, but other then the Cardinals, you really have to be bad for the better part of a decade before you can ensure yourself of that. Thankfully, most of the pitching staffs in the AL leave something to be desired.

P.S. Yankees also need a 2B, a SS, an "in-his-prime" slugger (preferably one who can play RF), a 2B, some relief help in back of the big two, and a 2B.

It's a business. This is a non-story. WIlpons suck, but it is a business, who cares.

Buisness is why they signed Cuddyer instead of going after Cruz, why they did not upgrade at short and why Harvey will eventually be a Yankee.
Wilpon's suck and I wish I did not care.

I hope we can win a championship before Harvey becomes a free agent. Then the Yankees can sign him on the downside of his career if they want.

You said 2B twice, but I agree except I think relief help will come from within (either what they have on the roster now with a few more consistent innings or in the minors as they are deep there).

3 times actually, think 1982 was joking.

Kind of. It's a point of emphasis on how much I want Drew outta here!

Agree with 85 re: the bullpen. I expect Lindgrin to get the call soon.

Pineda does have nasty stuff. I like him a lot.

This isn't the Puslipher-Isringhausen-Wilson group. It's actually more talented, but you know how that goes. A couple of injuries and flameouts and you are back to square one. Harvey is the best home grown Mets pitcher since Gooden, and reminds everyone of Seaver.

There is room for 2 good teams in New York. I never much bought into the love the Mets hte the Yankees thing, which was mostly long standing from the time we were 8 or 9.

You're a better man then I am, Beast. :) Of course, I started my fandom in the late 80s, when the Mets were king, and I had no idea of Yankees history. I guess that's simmerd down, unfairly, over the years.

Of course, Mets fans have to root for the Yankees the next two nights, against the Nats.

Seems to me it's more of a Met fan hates Yankees then the reverse. Yankee fans don't pay much attention to the Mets.

Beast, that's because you are too young to have been a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. The hated Yankees dominated the Dodgers repeatedly in several frustrating World Series match- ups till 1955. And, we all know what happened after the Bums finally won. This is the crucible that made me a loyal Redman and Mets fan! (let's hope the pendulum is finally headed back in our direction!

I don't have a problem not hating the yankees. Heck i was a yankee fan until my father pretty much used some sort of jedi mind control on me as a little kid and forced me to convert to a met fan. I do like needling yankee fans sometimes but even that's gotten old for me.

I've been to more yankee games than met games the last 10 yrs because most of my friends from work are yankee fans although they now like going to met games because of our pitching
