Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

You can cherry pick stats all you want, Maton pitched well at times and horrible at times, like pretty much every Met pitcher. And the discussion was actually about pitching scared and the Mets did not have a person on the staff that consistently attacked hitters, not one.
Watch the games with the volume on instead of putting your ear on the nearest train track then, Hoss.

Enjoying the demise of the Yanks, boy are they mediocre. You can’t look back on 2024 and say what a magical season it was for Mets with the follow up question being “Who won it all that year?” And the answer being the New York Yankees. Glad that is not the case eff em!

I feel like he is going to get overpaid. Five innings yesterday and Four (90 pitches) against the Mets both on long rest. Will not be a long term innings eater
Prior to the postseason, it sounded like he’d get a Severino/one year prove it deal.

I do think his price has raised exponentially and the days off are a good flag (and can explain his fastball hitting 96).

The counter, which I side on, is that for a two year deal — the upside is immense. This is his second year off Tommy John, which is typically the recovery time. I’d gamble on his age, timeline of his injury, and pre-TJ/October track record. If there’s a team that can help him build off this success, it’d be him!

I think he will get overpaid because people are overrating his postseason. He has only pitched 14 innings in his three starts.

He was very good before being injured the last two years, and back issues are very worrisome long term.

The Mets are going to make the largest bid for Soto, and he and Boras can decide what to do. He may still pick the Yankees, but Cohen will not make it easy. While I think that is obvious, it will also take the longest to sort out.

But with pitching, Stearns likes the shorter term contracts like last offseason. Mets will probably go short term with larger annual salary.

Cohen is not going to give a rat’s tail about any luxury tax. He is going to strike while the iron is hot. I can see every FA talking to the Mets, even if it is to help them get a better deal elsewhere. And who knows, Cohen may sign Alonso.

This is going to be a crazy offseason.

Would you do Buehler for 2/40?

Would you do Buehler for 2/40?
I'd do that but not more money or years. But with Cohen does it really matter ? These aren't the Coupons. But I wouldn't go more than 2 years. Maybe give big incentive money if he hits them also

Would you do Buehler for 2/40?
Tempting. But he can also go back to LA because they already have proven to spend a lot on a yearly basis. Also have see what Manea will get. He proved he can pitch in NY.

And then there is Corbin Burnes who Stearns drafted in Milwaukee. I am all over the place with this.

Two years would be ideal.

I think for the innings you will get from Buehler, I would pass and spend that money on the bullpen> Look at his whole performance this year before you make that offer. Also he has had Tommy John twice along with other health issues more recently.

Would you do Buehler for 2/40?
I prefer continuity . We have 3 30 year old pitchers coming off good seasons. Offer Manea 20M QO. He might accept.
If not I’d rather have Quintana or severino for 3/30
Or manea for 2/35-40

I think we should offer Manaea and Severino the QO, but also think both will reject it. I think Manaea will go for like 4/88 or something, and Sevy getting 3+ years. I'm iffy on those deals for them
