Merrimack, Mon., Nov. 7, 6:45p, FS-1

if you go by his stat line, Mathis was the best player on the floor last night. Also, I have noticed in preseason games as well as last night’s opener that his teammates are looking to get him the ball for shots from downtown.

Biggest head scratcher from last night? Keita getting more minutes than Nyiwe.
Mathis- I agree, I’m fine So far w him starting & Pinzon & Storr developing.
Keita needs early season minutes much Much more than Nyiwe.
Nyiwe played less than expected in exhibition. Maybe slight injury,
conditioning or dogging it in practice, who knows.

just watched the 2nd half on the app. is 29 TOs an eye popping atrocious number...yes. would say most of them are easily correctable as these guys get into the flow of real game speed. Saw a lot of long passes/ lobs / bad catches that were all self inflicted. I didnt see anyone get stripped or "forced" into a bad decision that led to a TO... the kids are figuring out what will work.

Given we averaged 11 last yr... i am 95% confident that 29 will be the high for the year. So, good news! Positive spin zone all the way lol.

I know he didnt do much of anything, but real excited to see what Storr brings once he gets going... just has the look/fluid movement of a player.

Solid first game.

Not particularly worried about the turnovers. CMA teams are typically great at not turning it over a ton.

This team will be near the top in the country at assists.

Knocked down a good bit of jumpers which was a concern of many.

Love the Posh/Belo combo. As others have said, we were playing our best with them both on the floor.

Delvi Jones is a dude. And he can get hot in a hurry. Love his toughness. Tough kid from a tough place.

Looking forward to seeing what we improve in game two.

Made it out to the game and met some buddies for the first time in person, that was great and I'll take a 25 point win.

Upper Section 10 no seat bucks so the old back hurts on this old guy. I tried the section below us with the setback, also uncomfortable.

The high Decibel feedback on the speakers was awful.

MJMJ is right it is HOT in upper section 10.

Takeaway, like jones a lot, and mathis is doing great so far. Curbelo: make a simple pass that works not a "highlight reel" pass that doesn't.

Spreading out minutes is going to take time we have a lot of interchangeable parts except for Posh and Jones, maybe Mathis.

Good to have St Johns basketball back. Good to get a win. Maybe less turnovers next game.

Very intriguing team this year. Despite the sloppiness I see a very clear talent upgrade. REALLY like these starters (assuming Posh and Curbelo can keep the turnovers within reason) We’ve had star level talent over the past decade but there’s usually been a significant drop off to the ancillary starters and bench guys. I’m somewhat concerned about the depth of the front court behind Soriano (I like Stanley & Nywei but until we can count on some consistency we don’t have much there) but I think that 2nd tier of wings & guards (Pinzon, Wusu, Storr, King) has potential to be a very nice little bench crew. I think Pinzon is an absolute baller and I hope he gets a very nice sized role season.

so happy to be back in carnesecca arena. Definitely played down to Merrimac’s level and looked to make too many highlight plays. Biggest complaint are the new seats. I appreciate the padding but the way they slant forward just makes them too uncomfortable. Nice try but not the best results.

great to see Jones have a terrific game

Yes, several times the speakers were awful. I think once or twice there was feedback while they were playing. It happened also during the exhibition games.

Agree about the new seat backs…need seatbelts…I folded the seat portion back to make a stronger seat back. . .

Made out to the game, for the first half atleast... 2 things:
1. WTF was that feedback noise? Like C'mon guys... makes me think they didnt do a dry-run testing music/replays etc... I'm not normally petty, but someone in the athletic dept should issue a statement- that was terrible

2. Curbelo... gotta let him cook... that's how you get the best version of him. If you try and reign a player like that in, i think they will play worse- tentative/2nd guessing/etc... The staff knew what they were signing up for- and hopefully the positive plays outweigh the negative.

Ok- a 3rd...
3. Posh... wow... his volleyball spike block off the glass... from my vantage point looked like his hand was by the top of the square. Last SJU player i saw jump that high was Balamou getting an offensive rebound lol
it was probably the same feedback and background noise heard in the second half of the exhibition game against Southern New Hampsire.

I liked the new lighting at CA last night. The game was a good out of the gate performance. Thought Belo looked like he was let out of jail playing in CMA;s up tempo style versus his game at Illinois. We controled the game despite the 29 T/O's (most ever by a St. Johns team???) as Merrimack had to play an up tempo game which is not wha they have played in prior years. CMA teams as others have said do not turn the ball over (throughout his career probably average 12 T/O's but they also out shot opponents in shots per game. I was also glad to see 9 guys in double digit minutes and King with 8. Gotta get Posh under 30 minutes to Belo's 27 minutes. Was glad to see Jones have a positive night as I thought he was trying to hard to replace Champ in the exhibitions. Dylan seemed off-need to get him going. Stanley came down to earth-do I hear Drissa in the wings??

Watched maybe half the game, and part of an exhibition game. A lot is going to be riding on how well Jones shoots the 3, as it's clear he loves to take them. He shot 30% from 3 as a soph, and needs to raise that to closer to 40%. Lots of knocks on the board for those that watched the entire game regarding high turnovers and other problems. Point is the game was never in doubt, and the players took care of business. That has not always been the case in recent seasons. As for Curbelo trying to make highlight reel passes, I can deal with that. He energizes the crowd, and that's a component the program needs.

Can't tell much from this game and playing low comp but IMO this team has no one shining outstanding star and can rely on several different players contributing points which I think is a positive and hard for other teams to prepare for. I am looking forward to BE play.

Posh consistently gets national props and has been a beast in the Big East right out of the gate but you don't see a shining star? Wow, this is a real tough crowd.

Made it out to the game with my son and brother in law and had a blast! I had the opportunity to sit next to Mr Ron Artist for the entire game! What a nice man! Spoke about everything from Frashilla to his documentary which mentioned his role in raising Ron in the projects! Also spoke at some length about the Detroit fiasco! We had such a good time that he mentioned he usually sits over in Section 3 but mentioned he would much rather sit by us! Looking forward to chatting with him at the next game!

I took it as a star scorer which I could agree some with. Scoring isn’t what makes posh as great as he is.
