Merrimack, Mon., Nov. 7, 6:45p, FS-1

I knows it was only the first game but against this level of competition there was just too many turnovers and too much sloppy play. I’m starting to think that this is just how an Andersen team plays. He wants them running and getting up and down the court and he’s not worried about the turnovers because he thinks the team can make up for it with steals and number of possessions.

MG, Johnnies have only averaged 11 or 12 turnovers in each of Anderson's first three years and have always averaged more assists than turnovers so hoping this game was an anomaly in that sense and they'll get it fixed.

Non chalant too frequently
Hopefully someone clues him in that we have a guy already on the roster who has played the point for us and everyone loves him. There's really no point to having depth if you aren't going to threaten a player with it sometimes.

Admittedly didn’t get to see the game. Looking at the boxscore and I like the FT numbers and looks like Curbelo and Posh had nice games. Too many turnovers but… Thought we might see more of Storr. Looks like he got limited run. Unexciting competition so it’s hard to judge but 25 point win is a win.

i think Pinzon played well early. Mathis played well whenever he was in the game. Storrs just seemed like he was out of synch. it was just little things….a jump too early, a pass a few inches too far off, a shot that didn’t fall. He wasn’t bad just seemed out of the flow. Part of freshman orientation to college ball I think. And with our depth, you can easily lost minutes in any game when others are producing.

He brought a vacuum to campus this year to suck up AJ Storr's minutes.
I think Mathis has looked really solid in the opening exhibition games and tonight. He’s shown a penchant for hitting the open three. If he can continue to do that with consistency this year would be huge for the team. That and playing under control which he’s done so far. Also would love to see him finish better than last year which he should be able to do with his athleticism. Curbelo looked great

It was frustrating, but still a 25-point win over a team that's picked to win their conference (OK, it's one of the worst conferences in America, but somebody has to be the best team).

The bench players were a disappointment tonight. They were responsible for a lot of those sloppy possessions, especially in the second half. No one came off the bench with any confidence, except Stanley, who looked too pumped up.

Too much overpassing. I know we want to share the ball, but there were many possessions where I thought we passed up good looks, and got nothing out of it.

For the most part, the starters played well. Good move by Anderson going back to them, when Merrimack made a bit of a run in the second half. Those guys not only stabilized things, but allowed us to pull away, again.

Turnovers and overpassing were the big negatives, along with too much woofing by our guys.

Biggest positives were Jones, Mathis, our +21 rebounding advantage (yes, Merrimack was small, but small teams have hung with us on the boards in the past), and 13-15 foul shooting (and Curbelo missed the last one - game was long over by then), though I don't like Merrimack getting 7 more attempts than us.
