Max Hooper

have multiple lil hopes now and all will be to high recruits for lavin. they are already playing up 3 grades and killing and they will be 6 8 or better and shooting the 3 from down town....... the local recruiters are banging the texts out night and day lol.... so now with them keeping me busy my posting has been to rare,, but to have such high hopes as we have this year and see this team look lost and see no progress it kills us fanatics..... and NO HOPE would like to wish all of us SJU fans a happy and healthy new year and we will see everyone in the big dance!

Still top notch poster in my book!

Somehow Jensen did to GTown what Mullin couldn't.

Interesting in that Georgetown has Harrison number in what 5 games he hasn't averaged 10 points.
You would think our coaching staff would have a solution by now.

The coaching staff should have a solution to his shooting 1-12? LOL! He is not a shooter! He has a scorers mentality and thinks he has to score even when it is a bad shot that will be the equivalent of a turnover. In year 3 he still does not know the difference. You do with him what you do with Branch....sit him and gamble with shooters. That is what the M & M guys were brought in to do......well, I guess in the end...it is coaching or the coaches knowing when to sit or play players. We must have the crappiest practices of any Big East team when we are reduced to starting walk ons! At schools like Kansas or UNC you send players a message by recruiting a ranked player at the same position. Lavin gives our guys a union card and waits for them to retire. That is why you recruit a stud every year. That is how you keep players working for their room and board and not skipping recruiting for a year.

Wow! with all of your superior knowledge I'm surprised your not a Big East head coach. You make it sound so easy, maybe coach Lav can get you on staff. You should contact him. If you have never been to a practice you shouldn't assume they are crappy.

I am also dissapointed with our results so far but this type of post is hysterical.

First of all I have observed quite a few workouts from the summer forward. Secondly, the wizard, the all-knowing, the biggest bulls**t artist ever to grace our bench, gave as a rationale, the starting of a walk on, Ndayis and his practice ethic was better than his 4 star recruits on the bench. I personally think he is FOS and think some players cannot understand the double talk and act confused in practice and just do not get what the f he is trying to convey. The results on the court are a reflection of that confusion.
Also, scouting an opponent requires sound advice from your assistants and ours suck! Even an amateur Big East couch coach like me saw after the first 6 minutes of the Gtown game that Smith-Rivera had to be keyed on and prevented from touching the ball. He had a season high game and was 75% of the reason we lost. There have been few adjustments that make sense and pulling an Ndays out of your ass five minutes before tip off is an act of capriciousness worthy of Jarhead at his worst.
With a team with just one freshman, and a top 20 one at that, and mostly guys 3 years out of high school, I have seen Ron Naclerio prepare better for opponents!

No Hope thanks you for the kind words he loves his SJU basketball... No Hope had lil hope #2 watching GTown game and in first half lil hope looks at No Hope and says Sir why do all the SJU players stand around for 20 seconds when you always tell us constant movement towards the hoop.. then he said NO Hope why cant they stroke the 3 when you make me shoot 250 from 3 a night and 250 ft's and No Hope said LIL Hope that is the 3 million dollar question to ask coach lavin  why a simple think like movement , ft and shooting the 3 cant be taught to all these top 100 players :(

Personally, I think we are overdoing the Max thing. Can he shoot? Yes? Can he shoot the lights out of the basket in the dark, in the freezing cold, with his pajamas on, with boxing gloves on? No. A deadeye shooter with somewhat limited athletic skills in the Big East has to come in ready to play, and after a couple of touches, be ready to drill shots. If he doesn't make open threes, he's a liability to have on the court - not a rebounder, a great defender, a jumper, or speedster. These guys no what they are getting into. Sharpshooters often get just one shot to hit their mark, and in essence when either of these guys begin making shots with regularity, they will stay in the game.

I don't agree at all. I mean we have had such success with our athletic rebounders, defenders, jumpers, and speedsters. This is basketball not track and field. A shooter HAS to know he will not be taken out if he misses one or two, that is coachiing 101. I am really tired of these inane posts lauding athleticism when we have one of the most athletic teams in the country yet one of the poorest basketball teams. I DON'T KNOW if Hooper can play but I see NO reason in the world we shouldn't find out. I DO KNOW the current team we put on the court for the majority of the game can't play winning basketball.
We should have been finding out about Hooper a long time ago. He should have. played more in the early season, that's what cupcakes are for. Another example of poor coaching, better late than never. Can you imagine what yanking Hooper after one miss does to his psyche?

When LIL Hope enters college I'm going to feel really freaking old

This team is so devoid of shooters that a guy who couldn't get minutes at Harvard gets a cult following based on a youtube video. As did Larry Wright and Ricky Torres and Avery Patterson and some I may have left out, all because there was hope that they could do what so few have done here: Put the ball in the basket from the 3 point line. There are hundreds of guys in high school and college that can stand alone in the gym and make 3's all day long. There are a lot less that can do it under pressure, with a large hand in their face, after running up and down the court chasing a better athlete around. I'm all for using Max, simply because I see no chance that this team will get appreciably better. Why not see if he is one of those guys that can shoot in the gym and during a game. But let's not kid ourselves. He may well give back on D what he gets on offense. If he can get open looks. What I really am curious about is why no shooters, and few very well rounded players, have been interested in coming here for a long, long time.

There are plenty out there every team we played has better shooters coach is just not recruiting them HE IS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE

True, but he was true to his HS form would be recruiting guys who are playing for Syracuse, UCONN, Villanova - even as they play for those schools. One of the famous, "he just moved to my school's district" guys

I DO NOT CARE HOW BAD A COACH IS .A TOP 1 HUNDRED PLAYER (and we have many) NO MATTER SHOULD PREFORM BETTER
At the div 1 level and after being coached over 4 yrs in HS as a group alone should put out a better product

No but how many schools have all six underperforming with the Big East preseason ROY sitting while a walk on starts?

Even an amateur Big East couch coach like me saw after the first 6 minutes of the Gtown game that Smith-Rivera had to be keyed on and prevented from touching the ball. He had a season high game and was 75% of the reason we lost. There have been few adjustments that make sense and pulling an Ndays out of your ass five minutes before tip off is an act of capriciousness worthy of Jarhead at his worst.
With a team with just one freshman, and a top 20 one at that, and mostly guys 3 years out of high school, I have seen Ron Naclerio prepare better for opponents!

Do you think our players are the only top 100 recruits to not play like they are top 100 recruits ????

Maybe someone made an error and left out a zero. Could they really be top 1000 recruits?

Makes me wonder about the whole recruiting process and what the press writes about it. We allegedly beat out Kansas for Sampson. How bad did they really want him? He wouldn't see much time there, not with the way he is playing so far. Then again, programs like N.C., Kentucky, Kansas and Duke have MCDAA's sitting on the end of the bench. Or maybe guys like Sampson sign there, and transfer when they get limited PT. Not saying he doesn't have talent, just wondering how much of a full court press the big schools we beat out really wanted some of our guys.

Meaning?? .Otherwise our selection process is needs to be adjusted.

Coach put the class together in a matter of months after being out of recruiting for more than a half-decade. He had to rely more on rankings and reviews of others than finding diamonds in the rough. Nobody would be saying a word if Sampson qualified from the gate, Moe stayed, and Sanchez played last year. Heck, if 2/3 -maybe even 1/3-- of those happened, this team makes the tournament last year. I know...excuses, excuses. If Coach was here for a few years and then had a guy like Moe selected in the top 15 after his freshman year, I'd probably agree with most of you. If Jordan bolted after this year...no excuses. He has vets to fall back on.
