Justin Simon, Zona

Just from his Twitter follows the last day. Of course the names mean nothing at this point. I am sure the list of potential SJU transfers will grow soon.Zach indicated he will have some names this week.

The title fooled me, as I was saying to myself, "Who the hell is Matt Hawking, and why Paultz gave this player his own thread?"

Hah - same here.

I was hoping he was a super talented British big man that didn't mind sharing minutes for the good of the team.

"Simon Sez" instead perhaps.

I very much respect the opinion of Happy but I don't have as much of a problem that Matt A specializes in procuring transfers. I do however, have a big problem with his "unfollow" act on Twitter. Kills all suspense and it's petulant IMHO.

If Slice stays and can compliment what Matt A brings on the transfer market then we can start to really see a blueprint. Very big IF at this point.

Noticed Matt was lead recruiter for F Marvin Clark, transfer from MSU, when he was at ISU.

Our greatest NBA alum before Chris was a transfer from Boston College.

One of our best backcourts was made up of guys who began their careers at Hawaii and Notre Dame.

And some of our best teams had solid role players in Jeff Allen (Rutgers) and Lamont Middleton (Hartford).

Lou feasted on transfers. And yes for every Reggie Carter, there was a Curtis Redding. But there's nothing wrong or lazy in getting guys to transfer in.

Great teams grow together and transfers even though part of the game is a lot riskier than putting in the work to build a newcleus. Throwing shit against the wall works sometimes. Keeping a coach like Slice is important. He has built relationships across the country and most importantly in the tri state area that 100% will pay off if people show a little patience. He is trying to convince 5 star kids to come to this shit box of a program right now. That is the truth despite what others choose to believe. Hopefully this changes but continuity is key.

Cardinal Hayes grad Kevin Loughery

Least we forget the Best Transfer of all time : Walter Berry

Berry's transfer gets an asterisk. (He spent a year at St. John's before going to San Jacinto to meet academic requirements.)

I agree Happy that you can't have your foundation built on transfers. But if your lead recruiter is Slice who is getting us in the door with guys we'd otherwise have no shot at. I don't have a problem with the 2nd assistant being a guy who can grab transfers. Could be a nice compliment to one another if Slice stays.

I would hope the friction between Matt and Slice is simply personality, and not that Matt thinks Slice isn't pulling his weight.

I take a different position on the Twitter thing. I can see why you would follow a kid you are recruiting. It allows unlimited contact with the kid and is an effective recruiting tool these days. I can also understand why you would unfollow a kid that commits to another program. The same way you wouldn't pick up the phone and call a kid once he commits elsewhere, it is probably wise to end communication via Twitter as well. It is more practicality than petulance.
