Marquette- 2nd Game

Have to start Dom down low.
This is a game that will tell us a lot. I know we're banged up, but tournament teams win these road games. I don't just want to to make the tournament...I want to get into position to win once there. Let's go, fellas.

"or twice" once there...:)
go on that elite 8 roll through a fearsome Maryland team until we lost to Texas

Huh? Are you referring to the Barkley/Artest year that we beat Stevey Franchise before losing to Ohio St.?

Scoonie Penn, Michael Redd, and the big bastard Ken Johnson with his 12blocks.
If not for him, that game was.ours.

Ron Artest played the entire first half as if he was terrified, medicated, or both. He shot airballs, looked shaky with the ball in his hands, as if some CYO kid was wearing his uniform. He picked it up a little in the second half but was not the dominant player he had been all tournament.

He looked to be having anxiety attacks. He was fine for the second half. His discomfort with being on the courts during the first half was very noticeable

I 've always thought it was because he thought he had to take over. In the second half we were back to Barkley running things and were much better. Just couldn't get over the hump.

The night before, Ron and other members of the team used their meal money to order room service from the hotel. The meal didn't go down well, and Ron got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom to throw up. Unfortunately, in trying to get to the bathroom in the dark, he tripped and fell over the bed, and hurt his foot. True story. I believe it was even mentioned on the broadcast.

Still though, the turning point of the game was the first shot we took, that Johnson blocked. It was a clear goaltend that went uncalled. That turned us into a jump-shooting team for most of the day. We had guys that could make jumpers, but it was not our game.

I was not shocked that we lost, though. 2 nights prior, I was rooting for Auburn to beat Ohio State, even though the Tigers were seeded #1 in the region. Just liked that matchup better.

First I've heard this story. Thanks.

i think they ordered the room service before the Maryland game actually, it wasnt the Ohio State game.

Oh, that may have been the case, because he didn't have a great scoring game vs. Maryland either (though his all-around effort was good). Injury was much more noticeble against OSU. At least, that's how it appeared.

Yes but the key was against MD, Erick outplayed Steve Francis.
in the OSU game Penn outplayed Erick. Just to start the game the 4 point play and the circus 3 point play on the fast break lay up....as time passes i get sicker thinking about it....disgusting

Please stay on topic. This thread is supposed to be about Marquette game 2.

If you tried, I am sure you could find the original thread about the game(s) you are discussing and read everything you wrote then.

The whole team outplayed Maryland, we blew them out. Frankly, that was a surprise against a very strong team.

Yes boss, but seems like it isn't bothering anyone since lots of posters are disgussing it, but anything you say.

I am afraid this is a trap game for us!
I don't think so. The players know how important this game is. Loose tomorrow and the victory against GT gets negated.

I bet I'm not the only one who would be surprised to find out we are only laying 1.5 tomorrow night.

I'd be shocked if anyone is overlooking this game. A win 100% clinches our spot. A loss and you need to either beat Nova or first round BET to feel safe.

don't be fooled, they are gritty and tough and will not lay down for us. We have to stay focused and get win number 21. If we lose at Nova, no biggie but this is a must win.

contrary to what some posters think that we are in the dance already....lavin and these guys know this is a must win and then we can safely say we are in......any road game is a tough game no matter who the opponent in this conference....im confident they will be very focused......and take care of business here......and other places as well B)

Ironically a loss at Nova would probably increase our RPI. But win this game and the rest is house money!

Well, our resume has us looking pretty secure. 5 top 50 RPI wins is plenty more than most bubble teams, as well as our SOS and record vs RPI top 100 being in good shape.

agree if the season ended today we would be safely in....but lose 3 in a row........all that good karma is gone.....I think we win tomorrow....have a decent enough chance to win at nova....and can make a run in the big east tourney too......so I am confident we will all be very happy in the near future....but I don't think you can be that secure thinking we are in no matter what over the next 3 games.....
