Manny vs Mayweather

Floyd will win a unanimous decision. I'm probably going to put a grand on Floyd. I like both fighters...I think Floyd is misunderstood and a fraction of the douche bag he comes off as. Manny just seems like a great guy.

Floyd has a 72 to 67 inch advantage in reach over Manny. That is just too much for Manny to overcome against a fighter as polished as Floyd. Manny is definitely the stronger puncher, though. His only chance is to win the fight is to catch Floyd in one of Tazmanian Devil combos. That is probably the only way he is going to be able to get inside Floyd's jab to unleash a nasty left.

Manny has insane power for his size, but Floyd has fought much bigger fighters that brought similar power. The difference is they didn't have Manny's speed and ability to pull off a sick combo.

Matt C, I wouldn't put a knockout past Floyd. I know he hasn't been a power fighter the last 4-5 years, but Pacquiao doesn't exactly have the strongest chin either. He's been knocked out a few times, and by much smaller fighters too.

Teddy Atlas picking Pacman by decision. Would love to see it with a few knockdowns in between.

Pretty much exactly how I saw it going down. That reach was just too much for a fighter as polished as Floyd. Neither fighter hurt the other guy at all. This was probably boxing's last stand. A spectacular failure for all the waiting and billing it received. I am disappointed Manny didn't give us a single moment of "oh crap, the fight could be over." A terrible fight.

Boring. That's all I can say. I didn't see it as 118-110. Agree with the other 2 judges of 116-112. Boring.

The average person would have thought Paquiao won based on the crowd but mayweather clearly won. Fight didn't live up to its hype and the popularity of boxing might have died tonight.

I didn't see the fight. But, in the post fight drama, Pac says that he fought with an injured shoulder. He claims that he asked for an anti-inflammatory shot before the fight but was denied. Arum said that the injury was similar to the one that Kobe suffered this season. So, basically, he fought with one arm.

This is why boxing sucks!! People ponied up $100 to see a fight where one guy had no chance to win before the bout even started. Forget about how much people paid to see it live at the arena. All that hype for so many years to produce a non-competitive match. Lots of people on Twitter called the fight a "snooze fest" or something similar. For example, Chris Rock tweeted, "The only fight I saw in that ring tonight was Jaime Foxx beating up the national anthem". Brandon Tierney tweeted that the press conference was better than the fight, etc.

I am so glad I decided not to watch it. The fans are pissed and Money and Pac are laughing all the way to the bank. What a load of crap!

Well, now they can blame the injury and schedule a rematch.

Arum says there was a shoulder injury, and you believe it? :)

When a guy says all of the following after a fight:

-believes he won
-his best wasn't good enough
-didn't push it the last two rounds because he thought he was winning
-talked a lot about injuring his shoulder the round before his only decent showing in round 4
etc.

it's safe to say, he lost clean.

Pacquaio was schooled last night. that fight should have been free on PBS and labeled "Educational Programming" because that is what Pacquaio got, a lesson, like all the others.

the hate for Mayweather, I get it...but the way it clouds judgements of sports fan is another thing entirely. manny never had a chance prior to this fight, and it has nothing to do with this "injury" either.

and the "Fans," whatever....sorry, but not every boxing match is supposed to be Rocky IV. I love a good Gatti/Ward too, but Mayweather is genius at this boxing thing, and I appreciate what he can do in the ring, brilliant at spacing, discomfort, defense, and angles. i almost can't wait for the "casual" fan to go back to their caves and watch football, because ya know, a four second play with a pile on is so exciting followed by half minute meetings. yet when mayweather totally makes one of the elite offensive fighters of a generation look amateur, it's "boring." no one says that when a pitcher does that to a murderer's row.

oh, and by the way, if Bob Arum says it, IT HAS TO BE TRUE! pffffft haha.

Great post except what, it's not cool to be a football fan? :( And it's mostly not 30 second meeting any more with all the no huddle hurry up offenses which I am not really fond of anyway.

Just using baseball and football as examples of where a "casual" sports fan could apply their "boring" nonsense to the way they do boxing is all. Most Super Bowls I've seen have been pure garbage, does that mean I shouldn't appreciate one team's dominance, or not try other Super Bowls in the future? This is the kind of thought process associated with this fight by people who just can't seem to come to grips with the bad guy winning. :)

ps: "Hurry up" offenses are more like "hurry up and keep their D on the field for this next play"--for many times you're just watching a team in formation for a good fifteen-twenty seconds yelling at each other. :)

peace

Sleek. When I watched the fight last night I thought mayweather probably won by maybe 4 rounds. And there were about 4 rounds I wasn't sure if either guy won them so I "gave" them to mayweather

Then I watched it again today. Normal speed. Slow motion. And I must say that those 4 rounds that were close I would give them to pacquiao To me the fight was a draw after carefully watching it again today.

To say mayweather schooled pacquiao is inaccurate unless you want to say he schooled him on how to constantly wrap him up when pacquiao started to be the aggressor. And several times he grabbed him by the neck. If you want to call that great fighting then so be it.

Boxing results will always be an issue unless there is a knockout.

This fight should have happened 5 years ago.

I'm curious what you thought about the pacquiao Bradley first fight. How did you see that result?

Also. If you watch the fight with the volume on the announcers can really influence you on how to see the fight. With the volume down I see a different result. And that is my objective take on the fight. I had no money on it. Just enjoy a good boxing match. Didn't think that was a good boxing match though

I thought Pacquiao won that first Bradley fight clearly, though Tim was very game and competitive. And yes, smothering Pac was "great fighting" the way JC Chavez would hit you in the thighs if too fast for him was great fighting, the way BHops using every body part as offense is great fighting, like every Holyfield foul was great fighting, etc. I just came up thinking that "protect yourself at all times" means something. I came up thinking, "if you can't catch Willie Pep or Sweetpea Whitaker, then you're not good enough to beat them." I am not for doctoring gloves. But in boxing, there has always been a fine line in regards to what you can do in a ring during a fight. You may not like it, but I bet every single one of your favorite fighters threw a low blow purposely, a rabbit punch, or maybe drove their forehead into yours. Part of the game. Like the line of scrimmage in a football game, there's always going to be some dirt going on.

It's generally accepted that if you get rocked, you tie up the other guy. Some use it to prevent a guy from rocking you at all. Manny is so grossly unlearned as a boxer that he had no answer, for he was a remarkable one-dimensional champion. He is easily the more washed up of the two at this point as well, whether it be due to being in more battles, the Marquez KO, PED use changes, becoming born-again, whatever. It would have been a more competitive fight five or six years ago, but last night? Manny got dusted, bad.

I can understand if it's not a preference in how one view's a fighter, but that is the tradition of the game itself. Pacquiao, with a killer resume in the game himself (bona fide hall of famer), was just completely out of his realm last night. He threw less than Mayweather, and was hit twice as much. Mayweather's shots were more crisp, Manny's were not so effective...just look at how Floyd rolls with punches, dips back on shots that might even land, etc. When against the ropes, Manny sure hit a lot of forearm and elbow. Floyd has done this to just about all opponents. Maidana in the first fight probably gave him his best test since Castillo I back in the day. Pacman looked as clueless as Canelo, Guerrero, Mosely (who landed a truly tough punch on Mayweather, nothing Pac did at all), etc.

Agree with a lot of what you say here. But if you have a chance to watch a replay with out the volume and being able to slow it down when the combinations occur do so. I thought mayweather won watching it live. But I guess by less a margin than you. But a lot of the connections mayweather supposedly connected on I just didn't see slowing it down. It looked like it live but a lot of them just barely missed. So I don't think the punch stats are correct for this fight. That being said this should have been their 4 fight instead of their first fight. Too bad.

I agree with almost everything Sleek says. The issue is if this fight happened 10 years ago Mayweather wouldn't have been able to fight as he did, which was essentially stick and run and run some more. Because 10 years ago he would have had more fights to sell so he would have had to put on more of a show for fear of affecting future earnings. Future earnings aren't an issue now. He has only 1 fight left, if you believe him. A farewell fight as it were which I hope is a monumental failure on every level.
