LoVett

Not good. Let's hope Marcus heals and rejoins team very very early into the Big East season.

Zach B just tweeted Marcus is not playing and did not travel with team.
So they left two days in advance for a game two hours away?

Looks like it. My guess is the campus is closed for break so they made a team bonding trip out of it.

St. John's guard Marcus LoVett (knee) will be out Wednesday against St. Joseph's, per source. Didn't make the trip with the team to Mohegan Sun. #sjubb

Smart move
Should be able to beat St Joe's without him
Get him more rest and treatment to get him ready for league season

I really hope he can play against Providence. Really looking forward to that game.

Lovett hopped a plane for Los Angeles yesterday. On Sunday afternoon, staff said he was "questionable but hopeful" for the St. Joes game. So less than 24 hours later hes purchasing a last-minute flight to LA during holiday season?

Something is rotten in Denmark.

Either injury is worse than suspected or something is going on. If he was actually close to coming back and was starting to participate in practice as staff had noted, he would either be with the team at Mohegan or on campus getting treatment until rest of team breaks for the holidays.

Thanks for the info Theo. Based on your disclosure, I wouldn't be shocked if we was a mid season transfer who would be eligible to play somewhere else next January. Unless of course, he didn't intend to play till next week and is joining his family with permission in LA for the holidays.

My gut is that the injury was worse than the SJU staff told the public from the beginning and its been known for a while internally that he wouldn't be back for a while. So he likely booked a trip to LA a bit earlier than expected, but with the way things have worked with this program for years and knowing that the Lovett family is a bit off-kilter, nothing would shock me either.

I can't imagine he would transfer midyear. He's been in college for 3 years now and has only played a year in change. Why wouldn't he just finish the year here then go to Europe?

Could it be that he's travelling home to see his family for Chanukah?

Well Jimmy Olsen those are all possibilities but of course I am looking forward to your complete story with pictures of Marcus shooting hoops at USC and skateboarding down Ventura Boulevard once you get back to the Daily Planet!
BTW, the campus is a ghost town and the treatment folks are playing the horses at Mohegan Sun. God forbid an injured player could join his family for Christmas without conspiracy theos.

Well, something doesn't add up. If Marcus were day-to-day as Zach reported, it seems strange that he would hop a plane to LA instead of joining the team at Mohegan Sun. If he were close to recovering, but being held out tmw as a precaution, it seems equally strange that he would forego treatment to head home early.

I'm no doctor, but he was noticeably limping at the Iona game. If I were to venture a guess, I would say the injury is more serious than first reported. Hope you're right 72 and that I'm completely wrong.

Looks like Zach just squelched the rumors on Twitter re LoVett. Apparently just going home early to enjoy being with his family. Collective sigh of relief!

Beat me to it, Boo. Apparently, the whole team is being excused for a bit, after tomorrow's game.

Per Zach:

Marcus LoVett was merely given a few extra days off. Entire team will go home for a few days after tomorrow. Knee isn’t getting worse. Hope is he’ll be ready for Big East opener. #sjubb

Zach might have been told that, but that doesn't make it so. We've gotten similar "reassurances" from various sources over the years regarding other players, and a good number of them played out otherwise. With LoVett especially, I'll be reassured he'll be back when I see him in uniform again.

Event organizers were springing for 2 nights there so the team took advantage of the offer, that's why they left early. Chance to practice there also. And the team is free after the game until Christmas Day so that's why we asked for the earlier start.
