No coach worth a dime would hold back a kid who wants to leave and is likely to get drafted.
We've just got done heaping praise on CMA for the improvement of several under regarded players, and how his coaching paved the way for the team finishing on an up note, likely receiving an NIT bid.
I don't think CMA wants to feed into the "hope and dreams" that LJ's advisors may be feeding to him. It seems like half the NBA draft are foreign players, and most of the rest are underclassmen. How many upperclassmen have gotten drafted without even making their own all-conference first, second, or honorable mention teams?
I think the conventional thinking around SJU is that if LJ wants to play overseas and has his heart set on it, then they would advise him to go with their blessing. However, if he somehow thinks his name will be called in the NBA draft, and would lose a year of eligibility in the process of not getting drafted, then perhaps CMA is doing him a favor by a public statement.
Lastly, I think CMA thinks that he can put LJ in a better position to showcase NBA talent, by both working with him next season and surrounding him with better talent so he doesn't have to do it all.
I'm 100% inclined to give CMA my confidence that he is doing the right thing for this kid and all of his kids.
