LJ Status

Making Plays,

Love the passion, knowledge and perspective you bring to the board. But here are the facts:
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/rasheem-dunn-1.html

He can get to the hole, but he turns the ball over and isn't a good shooter. His WS/40, TS%, eFG%, and Otg/Dtg are all more resembling that of a rotation player rather than starter. But he can also get hot and carry the team for stretches. This is what Dunn is, and I'm ok with that. But we're better off if he's deployed to minimize his limitations/weaknesses. I did make a mistake in my starting lineup. Our best starting lineup is Cole at the 2 and LJ at the 3. I like Dunn on the floor with Cole and Moore, which will benefit his drive and kick ability.

SJU lost so many games last year because of terrible outside shooting it is imperative that LJ and Cole are on the court together for most of every game.

And hopefully Greg William's can keep momentum with that outside shot he found at end of season.

Shot 50% from 3 last five games

2-3 @ Nova
7-10 v. Creighton
1-3 @ Butler
2-4 v. Marquette
0-4 v. G'town (Big East Tourney)

I appreciate the compliment and enjoy reading your posts as well.

With that said, I can't let you disrespect my guy Dunn like that and just reduce him down to an ineffective rotational player. That's simply not true. He's not the greatest shooter in the world and he can get a little carless at times with the ball, but his pros far outweigh his cons, that's why you seen CMA trust him so much, there's a reason why he put the ball in Dunn's hands to end games rather than Heron's and LJ's. His passing ability, ability to attack the rim, and ability to draw fouls is better than theirs is. He's also a good free throw shooter in crunch time when it matters. You and Duke may not like him as a PG, but it doesn't really matter what you guys think it's what the head coach thinks and the head coach plays him at PG and played him the most minutes on the team, that's just a fact.

LJ also posted a pic of him posing in the stands in his SJU jersey today on his Instagram story at around the time this story came out. I would think that’s a good sign.... even though the other guys in the pic posing with him are Sears, Steere and Justin Cole lol...

I’m assuming it was coincidence as it looks like it was just a pic from midnight madness/red-white even.

Would much rather have LJ than Ray and I was pro-Ray. So we're looking at:

PG: Posh/McGriff
SG: Williams/Dunn/Wusu
SF: LJ/Cole/Caraher
PF: Champagne/Earlington/Moore
C: Toro/Roberts

Best lineup might be LJ at the 3 and Cole at the 2. Deep and positionally flexible team.
Dunn as a back-up SG???

I don't understand the logic in that. He played the majority of his minutes at PG last year, lead the team in assist, was the second leading scorer when Heron went out, and was arguably the most consistent player on the team before he got sick the last couple of games. He'll be the starter next year, one of the leaders on the team, and he'll play a lot of minutes at PG, not understanding how some people are in denial of that.
It's because I personally think he's best used as a "microwave" type player off the bench. First unit will have enough scoring (hopefully). Especially if they decide to run LJ and Cole out there together. Dunn is an inefficient player who you ride when he's hot, but reign back in when he's not. I think Dunn is what he is, which is a BE rotational player. I don't see him magically becoming a good shooter or efficient offensive player.
.

Could not agree more. He was playing pg out of necessity, not because he was good at it.

Posh and mcgriff are true pgs. Dunn will come off the bench at sg. And we will also run alot of 3 guard aligments so he will be out there with posh and willimas too.
I don't know which is more laughable... the fact that you think McGriff will play more PG than Dunn next year, or that you think the guy that started at PG and lead the team in minutes played last year will come off the bench at a position he rarely played last year. Dunn nearly played all of his minutes at PG, even when Rutherford was on the floor with him, he was still the guy that dominated the ball and lead the team in assist. Did you guys seriously not watch the games last year?
Exactly and if there is a season no doubt CMA will go with, at least start whatever season there may be, with the players that know his system. There is no doubt in my mind that Dunn, Williams, Champagne and LJ all start. And if you recall all 4 were playing very well when our season came to an abrupt halt. I see:
1. Dunn, Posh, McGriff.
2. Williams, Cole, Wusu.
3 LJ, Duke.
4. Champagne, Moore.
5. Toro, Roberts.
Caraher can be used at the 3 and 4 the same way the Duke will be used at the 3 and 4. Moore may also see spot minutes at the 5. There are many interchangeable parts. That is how I see the line up at the beginning of the season, obviously Posh could start down the road and so could Cole. Bottom line is we are very, very deep. Practices should be very spirited and tough and given that we have 7 returning players and 8 who know the system ( McGriff) we should be miles ahead of last season.
It has been a long time since I have been this excited for a St. John’s team. The last time I was this excited to start a season was probably Lavins first season, in other words far too long.
Don't sleep on Toro either. We lacked rebounding last season and he can be a huge help in that area. He will also be a 5th year senior. Not sure if he'll start or not, but I suspect he'll get plenty of important playing time, especially if Roberts isn't 100% at the start of the season.

While Stars Graduate, Here's Who's Next in #BIGEASThoops per John Fanta

LJ Figueroa, St. John’s

At 6-6, Figueroa is a matchup nightmare. If he returns for his senior season in Queens after testing the NBA Draft waters, he’s got the skill set of an All-BIG EAST First Team caliber performer. Not only did he lead St. John’s in scoring at 14.5 points per game this past season, but Figueroa was the perfect fit for Mike Anderson’s system. He led the conference with nearly two steals per game, and his ability to space the floor made for good results in his junior season. Figueroa can attack and beat you from the perimeter consistently, having hit 72 triples this past season, good for third on the program’s single-season record list. Think of what Anderson did in his first season in the player development area. With a second year under him, Figueroa could continue to blossom into an NBA player, and be the leader for an NCAA Tournament team in 2021.

Love Figs, hope we get true confirmation soon that he’s back. Kid is a warrior and I’ll take the floaters etc because he does so many other things. He will really shine with more skill around him and honestly one of best SF’s in the conference.
Can’t Cole play guard if need be
Definitely. He’s a SG in JC. I don’t want to get too excited about the kid but he seems like he is a big time scorer and shooter with a lot of skills. Like will be a starter sooner rather than later but let’s roll the balls out first.

When I think of LJ, I think of two plays. One where he was shooting free throws and everyone thought it was a one and one, he missed and put in the rebound as others watched.
The second was where he did the old schoolyard play where he in-bounded off the back of a defender, retrieved the ball, and scored. He’s more heady then many give him credit for.

From the season prior, but reminders on why it’s important to get him back this season if we want to make a run...

If everyone thought it was a one-and-one and he missed, why would they just watch if he missed?
Don't you mean they thought it was two shots?

NCAA announces withdrawal date for NBA Draft will be pushed back. It will wait for NBA to create new timeline before proceeding wtih a new date. Initial cutoff day was June 3. St. John's LJ Figueroa and Seton Hall's Sandro Mamukelashvili each testing waters. #sjubb #shbb
