Let's go get a Slice!

For the life of me I can't understand why calapari decided to run clock once they got a 4 pt lead with about 6 mins left. 3 straight possessions with a fling at the basket as the shot clock expired never looking inside to Towns did them in.

Yup
Should have just kept giving the ball to Towns. They were up 4 not 14. Terrible job by Cal

Calipari wanted the ball in Towns hands too, but the guards didn't feed him or maybe Wisconsin's defense had something to do with it. Start the blame game.

They ran clock three straight possessions in front of the KU bench. That was coning from Cal, so um....yeah Cal gets blame for that.

let's agree to disagree, players didn't execute. Dekker did.

Agree he started running clock otherwise I think he Would have called a few timeouts if he didn't like what was not developing.

Lets face it Calipari is a great recruiter, but a shit#y game coach. Only time he was on a level field with his coaching peers was when he coached in the NBA (salary cap even things out) and we all know how that worked out.

Calipari is a crappy game coach. Go put in the national championship game of Memphis versus Kansas. You couldn't coach a worse last four minutes of a game.

Shitty though? Think of the close games his team did win. Better recruiter than coach but man the guy was 38-0! He just happened to run into the best coach in the game IMO in Bo Ryan.

He has nine McDonalds all American. He should win every game. Wooden did it with the Walton teams when he had more talent than others

The guy had a .730 winning % at UMass, .762 winning % at Memphis, .833 winning % at Kentucky

You can be a great recruiter all you want, but you don't win 593 games by being a bad game coach

Duke had 9 McD's kids too until Sulaimon got the boot. But many people call Coach K the best coach in the game and he lost multiple games.

Coach K is a way better game coach than Coach Sleeve. We will agree to disagree. Lets get back to Slice topic

Over the past two years, there have been a lot insinuations on this board about Slice delivering brown paper bags with cash, etc.

Fwiw, My sources said it was actually 2 slices of pizza from Grimaldi's in those paper bags...

Let's also keep the program clean.

That's just what we say when somebody works for another school and lands recruits the we envy.

When he works here its his powerful relationships with the kids and their families that persuades recruits, no bag needed.

I don't think he's bad but he's not great either. How many of those wins at UMass and Memphis were vacated?

I think its because Calipari is better at skirting the rules and amassing talent than actually coaching a team. I often compare him to Nick Saban. Both are great in college where they amass the talent so the deck is stacked. However both have not done so well professionally where amassing the talent or stacking the deck is much more competitive/difficult. Saban had his Urban Meyer moment and last night Cal had his Bo Ryan moment.

I don't think you can compare a coach's college success versus their professional succes. They are two completely different things. It's different in college because coaches have 100% control of their roster. They can recruit kids to fit their system. In the pro's, you are pretty much told what your roster is going to be, minus a few draft picks, free agents, etc.

As far as Saban and Cal goes, their lack of professional success in no way diminishes their ability to coach. They are really good coaches, but are just more suited for the college game, where they have more control.

I am hopeful that he comes to SJU. And I am also hopeful that Slice is the guy everyone has been describing over the past two weeks.......and not the guy that was described over the past two years.

I do not know him, so I honestly have no idea.

Good point. If we all think Cal is dirty, how could his lead recruiter be clean?

I don't pretend to know one way or the other but we certainly don't need to be involved if there's any doubt. While the NCAA will turn the other way for Kentucky they will do no such thing for us.

In addition he sure would cost us a lot of money. With Chris and Matt already in place it might be better to spend that on someone with head coaching experience or an associate head coach / Dunlap type. Slice has head coaching experience but the results were not good.

@ctkcoachjarbs: Guy is great at what he does. Heard he may be coming home soon.

This is about Slice. Does he know something or he just going by what the rumors are?

I think Slice will be a nice addition if he comes. I think you make a valid point. Have to get pieces that compliment one another. We got a great recruiter w Matt. I agree a guy like Dunlap w coaching exp and X O expert would be nice. It could also counter the argument about Mullins lack of coaching exp. Need a player development expert. Although Mullin probably has that covered, a guy specializing in Bigs will help.

The Days of paper bags are gone. But the days of lending a family member money to open a cash business are awash. Beauty salons, pizzerias galore. Family goes from driving a hoopty to a BMW from the business! Boosters lending cars via their dealerships! Two out of three times to the final four with the most talent and comes up short recently!

@Ben_Baskin: reports that Calipari may be pushing Harrison twins towards draft to make room for new recruits is troubling, esp when they may go undrafted
