Lavin Wishes He Had 2 More Weeks / NY Post

How do you gripe about time when you're benching your best player who is coming off such a fine year? These are kids performing for little compensation to begin with. I think Dlo made his bones last season and deserves a bit more respect than he's getting. Same story on Evans last year and we saw how that turned out. The thing is these disagreements should be handled privately rather than by embarassing valuable players and raising eyebrows among the others. The kids always know who should be playing and hanging dirty laundry out to dry does nothing to improve the image. Steve should be able to get his point across without benching someone so close to tipoff time when you're publically griping for "two more weeks."

yeah, give Dlo carte blanche because of last year. how bout coach did try to make a point by not starting him in the first exhibition game, he didn't learn, and got benched the whole game. dlo as much as i love him is not bigger than the program. i think he learned and will do what he needs to do for the rest of the year.

How can you criticize benching D'angelo when none of us know what he actually did?

Maybe he was late to practice? Maybe he missed a curfew, maybe he told coach to go f#%k himself?

We have no idea. So I think it's a little ridiculous to say coach shouldn't be benching him for EXHIBITION games.

And his play last season doesn't mean he's above team rules. Don't confuse performance with discipline. Unrelated. Or at least they should be.

PS. It largely has been kept "in house", seeing how none of us know what he did.
And as for Evans...

Great post...couldn't agree more.

I wonder how much you'd laugh if DLo decided to take his act elsewhere. Evans certainly would have if he was a soph. As it turned out he was damn valuable as the season wore on. That didn't make up for the Fordham loss he sat out for though. I haven't seen many top notch kids benched elsewhere. It's a BS move that reveals discord publically. We don't need that in the fishbowl we live in.

Thanks for the laugh!

I thank God every single day that Evans was able to produce those whopping four points against Gonzaga, allowing us to overcome their huge size difference and eventually win our first national championship. Other than Tony Jackson and Chris Mullin, Evans is the greatest player to ever don the red jersey.

a little unknown kid named trey burke at michigan had the same thing happen to him. These coaches have no clue what they are doing!

Add to that; Florida just suspended their starting pg and they play Georgetown tomorrow in one of the aircraft carrier games.

It's unbelievable that someone could pass judgement on a suspension we know nothing about.
You need to tell me what Harrison did wrong before I could possibly tell you it was wrong to suspend him.

Bottom line is he is supposed to be a leader...If he wasn't acting like one, then action is needed..I am certain that the discipline was not dispensed on a whim

While he's supposed to be a leader and this and that, I can see the POV of someone saying it was a bit much if it was a minor thing he did. If he cursed at a coach or showed up 10 minutes late to practice, then it was overkill to embarrass him like that. If it was something more serious like skipping classes or being involved in some kind of criminal activity, then it's fair. Yes he is expected to be our leader, but the kid is what...19? He's still a teenager. Sometimes the discipline a coach gives a player rubs them the wrong way and can make them consider transferring or at the very least cause a rift in the locker room fast. As a teenager, your highs are higher and your lows are lower. That should be kept in mind. With that said, it's hard to judge considering we don't know what he did. My hope is he just puts drama behind him and plays hard.

I'll go with the Coach's instincts on this one. He's close to the situation and so far he's done a better than pretty good job in putting this team together.

It was a meaningless exhibition game.

Willing to bet if it was Detroit game he would have been playing.

Lets move on.

well...if Moe had stayed...not sure we would have Sampson...

Wouldnt have had Sanchez.

As of this morning, I'm starting to be really concerned we won't have him anyway.

If I were to bet I would go with neither being eligible. Article in the Post this morning about Lavin indicated they are not eligible at the moment. I think the thing about it being whether he is a SR or JR is BS. Again for my money these things happen whe you try to recruit talent, but the story SJU is putting out there seems to be less than forthright.

Save your money and don't bet on assumptions you're making based on garbage newspapers. Let it play out.
