Lavin parting ways with St.John's

By the time his contract is up, we will have completed two decades of lousy basketball.

I am really taking this hard.

I am beyond disappointed. I get the feeling that Lavin was not let go, simply because the university could not get their act together.

Now, with time ticking away, a poor coach who has done a mediocre job is holding all the leverage.

Absolutely awful!

I am sick at the prospect of suffering through Lavin's nonsense for another 5 years. Absolutely sick about it.

I disagree. I think the school is happy with many of Lavin's accomplishments. 2 NITs, 2 NCAAs in 5 years. 20+ winning seasons. Graduating seniors.

I think they were more concerned with his high salary and probably found a way to streamline it with performance incentives and a low buyout.

Few years ago when Roy Williams was not feeling well there was a push to get Shaka Smart, and one wise man said excuse me what exactly has Mr. Smart won? Never even won his conference! Now to think we will start next season with Shaka on the hot seat! I bet NC state is happy he balked. Anthony Grant flamed out! Be careful what you ask for, cause you might just get it! IF STJ was really gonna change coaches there were two fellas wanting back in that had huge accomplishments that would of jumped. Calhoun and his 3 natl championships, and Ben Howland, both who told everyone that would listen they wanted back in the game. Why on earth would we replace Lavin for a Hurley or a Miller when you could have those two, and be legit tomorrow morning! Watch out for the trolls with an agenda

Calhoun would have been worth it just to stick it to Uconn fans. Don't think he would have held up for a season.

The only way Shaka Smart is on a hot seat next year is if he sits on a stove

SJU is a joke.

Johnny, you have 2 choices: Stay on board and hope for the best, but know that more bs will come under Lavin, or just say screw it and abandon ship.
I have had enough of Lavin and won't go through the heart ache with him as our coach.

I guess whoever is pissed but stays with this mess is better then me but so be it.

I think it will be done and it should. Lavin has done a decent job, even if not what we have been hoping. Imo, only reason we are even having this conversation is because of that idiot Obekpa, because imo we would have beaten Sdsu with him.

SJU becomes a really bad job for potential coaches if we are firing Lavin off an Ncaa tourney season. Continuity is good sometimes and we need that.

Careful, you're making sense! :woohoo:

@AdamZagoria: Also, Lavin did not meet today with President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, per source.

Probably, knowing SJU, he met with the Fencing Coach. :)

Don't laugh. When Looie was trying to find housing for my son ( he was a freshman and manager of the basketball team) the rifle coach was assigned that job.

I wouldn't expect anything less funny from my school!

Obviously extending him. You don't hold end-of-year meetings and evaluations, with a coach you plan to fire, while available coaches are being courted by other schools.
