Lavin Commentary Rutgers Game

I'm one of his biggest bashers but Can't say a bad word about him tonight, he stood there and signed countless autographs and took pictures, he was literally first pumping after our made baskets down the stretch and it took a lot for him to be a big man in that situation. Good for him.

wow that's great to hear

I also thought he looked good tonight and thought his smile was because he was happy we won.

When Christian was on the line at the end of the game I thought we were gonna need some medical attention for the guy, he was doing that weird tie adjusting thing he used to do when he wore ties and was genuinely nervous. It was really cool to see.

he also had some nice words to say on twitter

Always liked Lavin as a person, not so much as a coach! I spoke to him before the game and he appeared very happy and relaxed talking to anyone who approached him. My seat was in the first row behind our bench and I could see Lavin looking over at Mullin analyzing his coaching moves and substitutions! I got the feeling that he wished he had kept the SJU gig! By the way, what a game! Nobody wanted to leave the arena! It was special!

Yeah, and Lavin and Fun seemed to enjoy each others company as they were seen laughing and yukking it up together. :eek:hmy:

LETS GIVE LAV CREDIT He kept the program progressing and he is a nice

I agree guard, but I will take a line from one one of my favorite movies "The Right Stuff" I think he "screwed the pooch"

I thought this guy said it best

Steve Lavin did halftime and post-game commentary live from Carnesecca, which was a little awkward to put it mildly – it was like if a guy whose girl friend of 5 years dumped him because he couldn’t get it up later had to come back and describe the action while her new boyfriend Chris banged the hell out of her. Anyway, Lavin was his usual amalgamation of vapidity and hail-fellow-well-met and displayed all the charm of a stick insect. He said for example that “it’s good to be back home,” which this isn’t your home, get out, that Saint John’s “is shorthanded,” which of course they are, you didn’t recruit an eligible player after 2011, and that “Chris Mullin has a bright future,” which is like Wally Pipp describing Lou Gehrig as a pretty good ball player. On the fashion front I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Lavin’s elaborate bouffant hairdo, which rose a good four inches off his forehead and was molded into what seemed to be a replica of the Flat Iron Building. In contrast to his usual grooming – vainglorious mousse and spray on tan – this new look has a degree of utility to it: if his career as a commentator goes into the toilet he can always audition for a Kid ‘n Play tribute band

Look, he's good guy, even if probably not my type of guy.

He was a mediocre coach, the kids really liked him, a sometimes lazy recruiter who shot for the stars and connected more than his 2 predecessors . No question he brought us back to respectability, which if you forget that, have a short memory.

His overall ability wasn't good enough to keep this program in the top twenty, but it was nice to see him on campus. Glad he has a thick skin and harbors no resentment towards SJU for parting company

no need to knock him now. he was all class when he left here and he does a good job in tv booth - nobody ever disagreed about that.

Glad to hear that there appeared to be no evident ill will and that those in attendance treated him well.

Does anyone know whether Lavin spoke to any of his old players (Amar, Christian, Felix) or Mussini who he originally attempted to recruit. I would think Mullin would be more than okay with that.
