Lavin addresses "rumors"

What's Lavin supposed to say?

Agree with this, but he went well above the classic line on this subject. He said he would like to end his career here.

My guess is that, if things end badly for Lavin at St John's, he WOULD end his coaching career here (at least at the major conference level)

I don't doubt this, as there wouldn't be any market for his services out of the teams he would even consider.
I wholeheartedly believe he expects this team to flourish next season. They only lose GG and Sanchez to graduation, and they could potentially return everyone while regaining Jones. I don't think any coach would ever voluntarily walk away from a senior class they built to never coach again. If anything, I think he'd leave on a high note the following year when we are due to lose just about everyone.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't envision a front court of Sampson, Obekpa (maybe), and Jones being very good next season. If they are getting destroyed on the boards this season, God only knows how bad it will be in 2014-'15.

The staff must bring in two bigs and a shooter. I don't care if they are JC or JC himself but not to fill a critical need and shrug it off when questioned is comical. Not one player scheduled to return likes to rebound and any possible player injury or departure could cripple the front court next year.

Staff hasn't been present at any CTK games from what we have heard. SNY Invitational and our staff wasn't in the house. Hoophall, nada.

Do people really think the staff is finding another under the radar Christian Jones out in some prep school somewhere?

From all that it appears, the staff is not traveling. Week of the Super Bowl and Lavin will be rubbing elbows with a bunch of suits but not putting in some legwork with recruits.

And FWIW, I'd rather take an established D1 transfer over a JUCO because this staff hasn't had success with our JUCO selections.

If and or when Lavin doesn't land some talent then i think you can get on him. So far he's proved to at least be able to bring some "talented players" here. I know most haven't panned out.

Actually, we are critical for the reason you state above, i.e., most of the "talent" have not panned out, not qualified or have transferred. We thought we had thoroughbreds but Borax mules is closer to reality. Fast but slow to adapt to game situations and that includes the coaches.

If by chance this team returns in-tack for next season, it's imperative the coaches find a big man to replace some of the minutes Sanchez/Gift give us.
Christian Jones cannot fill that void completely. And Obekpa is becoming more of a question mark each game.

Sampson could be very, very good. Obekpa is till really young and will only get better. They also have Dom who is probably better suited for playing the four in a small, fast lineup.

I'd really like to add a transfer big man... Graduate, JUCO, or immediately eligible undergrad. Doesn't matter if they can play.

(1) Sampson is very good, but he's not really a banger inside. He still has it in his mind that he is a three and should be playing out on the wing.
(2) Obekpa has just regressed in every way possible this year. And that offensive game of his is just brutal.
(3) Even in a fast lineup, Pointer is not a four.
(4) Can't really say anything bad about Jones cause I haven't seen him since last year. But I doubt he's going to go from redshirting to playing major minutes for us next season.

Unless Lavin has a total ace up his sleeve, our FC is going to be pretty brutal next year. I'm not trying to be negative, just being honest.

Please tell me what Obekpa has done that is leading you to believe that he will only get better?

Sure, he's a soph.
He is a raw kid that has been able to freestyle on defense in various zone looks since high school. That just changed for him and he has to adjust and learn to okay fundamentally sound. It isn't easy to undo year s worth of bad habits. Let's not throw dirt over the kid just yet.

No, you can't throw dirt on Obekpa by any means. There's plenty of time for him to develop. And maybe he just needs to be relied on more. Kids have a way of learning on the fly when they're asked to finally be the man and play starters mins.

Either way though, if he's the only 5 on the roster next season that's a problem.
I'm shocked to be admitting this, but GG has played a pretty meaningful role for us. Nobody else has shown a willingness to do the dirty work.

I am also surprised, But lately Gift has outplayed CO.At this point I think you have to give more minutes to Gift, unless CO turns it arund. Gift has been a warrior.
