Kudos to Soriano! I'm happy for him and the work he's out in.

I'm also proud of the kid from Weber State, Dillon Jones. I've known him since he was about 5 or 6 years of age. My son and Jones also played on a solid middle school team as 7th graders (7th and 8th graders).

A good kid who I am definitely rooting for there at Weber State.

It's all political so won't happen, but he deserves to be second team all-American for what he's done on a largely dysfunctional team.

Soriano has been double teamed a lot recently and needs to adapt…he is taking too much time when rece8iiving the ball. Need to react immediately - either shooting or passing

Needs to be coached up to do so, therein lies the problem. Zendon never passed out of the post either so he's not a great tutor.

SJ Web Release

QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 10, 2023) – St. John’s senior big man Joel Soriano has been chosen as one of 10 played named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, presented annually by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame to the top center in the nation.

Soriano earned a spot on this prestigious list of finalists alongside three other BIG EAST players, Connecticut’s Adama Sanogo, Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner and Xavier’s Jack Nunge. A consistent threat on both sides of the ball, the Yonkers native has racked up 19 double-doubles this season, which ranks second in the nation and the most by a Johnnie in a single season since Walter Berry (1985-86).

Amidst all the gloom and doom of the 2022-23 season, Joel reached a couple of milestones last night. Aside from grabbing his 500th career rebound in a SJU uniform, Joel surpassed the great George Johnson and is now 10th on the all time single season rebounds list. Johnson tallied 335 rebounds during the 1976-77 campaign. Sonny Dove currently holds spots 8 and 9.

Great info espken. Dove is one of my all-time favorite Johnnies. I wonder who hold the spots above him; probably Leroy Ellis & Mel Davis are up there.
