Kudos Joel Soriano

While it was Posh that was picked preseason all Big East 1st team, its Joel that may find his way on the first team. He clearly has put in all the work.

Could not be more pleased with JS’s development. I anticipate teams with multiple, capable bigs like Creighton, UConn and Xavier taking it at Joel to try and get him in foul trouble. Also, I hope defensively SJU does less switching to avoid him being stuck on perimeter defending quick guards. Lastly, Nyiwe, although really a forward, seems very important obviously subbing for JS

Joel has been a very pleasant surprise and the staff should get some credit for that.
Opposing defenses will be sure to collapse on him, which makes it vital he kick it out to the open shooter.
Patience for JS is key, reposition and you may get the ball back in a better spot.

Soriano has shown a nice ability to hit the 10-12 foot shot if left open which is another plus; shooting 63% from the floor. Agree that acid test will be how he fares against teams like Creighton, UCONN & Xavier with quality bigs and whether he can stay out of foul trouble in those type of matchups. Do need him to shoot better from the line which he did last year (73%).
But have no doubt BE opponents will concentrate on stopping him down low which should open lots of opportunities for guys like Jones, Curbelo, Posh, Pinzon, Storr & Wusu to show they can drain a three

He's a great back to the basket big guy + he has good hands ... How long has it been since we've had that? Forever, it seems like (Tyrone Grant? maybe?) Forever... sheesh. And he's legit big; he's not a 6'9'' listed guy. He's a 6'11'' listed guy.

He's terrific. As you said, this opens so much more on the offensive side. Additionally, for the guards driving to the basket, they can now dish it off to him as he can catch a tough pass, or the guard just takes it to the hoop... It's a revelation to see.

He's playing great but Soriano will struggle against those bigs just for the fact that he'll have to play heavy minutes with no legit back up.

I also applaud Joel’s play so far, exceeded my expectations. If he can play his game against our leagues top centers , SJU has a chance to extend its season pretty far. If not
