Knicks

And who made the Knicks relevant again?

Is he? He's made two conference finals and made one NBA final -- something Thibs never did. He's matured as a coach and his Dallas teams have overachieved.
His lack of adjustments, slow/non use of time outs, failure to improve Doncic's deficiencies have all been pretty glaring.

As the one person in the world who thinks Nico Harrison did a good thing for his team and potentially also for Doncic by trading him, the question now will be if Kidd looks better as a coach without that fat lazy whiner on his team. It should certainly make his life a lot easier, let's see what he does with that.

Believe it or not, I actually thought it was a good trade for Dallas as well. Should've gotten more, but I thought the reaction to the trade was blown way out of proportion.

I'm not sure anyone will get through to Luka about defense or conditioning, so I wouldn't pin that on Kidd. I'd also say Thibs' greatest issue was lack of adjustments, and ironically, the adjustments he made this postseason -- while successful -- also made his regular season look even more glaring. Having Mikal and Hart at two separate times during the year talk about a need to understand roles and get guys more minutes/lineup changes is pretty crazy.

Kidd's teams have overachieved and players like to play for him. I don't think it's a home run, but I can buy into it.

Edit: I also like that Kidd has already coached Brunson. That creates a level of stability/takes out some adjustments right away.

If the Knicks hire Kidd, then a Giannis trade is not a crazy thought. Giannis could very easily force a trade to the Knicks, as he respects Kidd immensely, even crediting him with improving his game when he came into the league as Kidd was his coach in Milwaukee.

Only the Knicks would fire a coach after giving him an extension and be smitten with a coach of another team where they will have to give compensation. After trading 5 years worth of first rounds picks for a mid player like Bridges.
Sounds similar to the CMA saga at SJU.

if you're trying to get Giannis you hire Budenzholzer
Who is also not an upgrade on Thibs but at least that is a rational thought process - if it pans out

I think Dolan definitely interfered just because Thibs and Rose thick as thieves. The smoke I was hearing was Kidd. You just need to get him a private car 🚗.

The Dallas Stars just fired their coach, Pete DeBoer after three straight appearances in the WCF (all losses).

Similar to Thibs, he has been a successful coach, but has not won a title (also lost in the SCF twice). I think he has a better resume’ than Thibs.

This last series loss was pinned on him for making what appeared to be a panic move with a goalie switch in game 5. Different sport sure, but firing a coach like Thibs is by no means an unheard of travesty.

So if (very) hypothetically Indiana beats OKC for the title how does that move the perspective needle on Thibs firing?

It's worth noting that Indiana was basically the best team in the league from a record standpoint in 2025
